Default Turbo Issue? Fuel?

Hello all,

I have been a lurker for some time, and have been grateful for the knowledgebase that exists here. Fortunately I haven't needed to post since most issues have been covered in depth, multiple times. However, I've now gotten my truck into a bit of a mess and am at a loss.

What it is: 2000 Ford 250, 6speed, 4x4, 7.3

What I did: The glow plugs tested with one working. I disassembled air intake lines off the turbo to get to the valve covers. Replaced glow plugs, and reassembled. Glow plugs worked great. However, the next morning the truck seemed to be running oddly and I got a whiff of fuel. After inspecting it while running, the fuel water drain valve was clearly leaking heavily. I removed and placed a small O ring behind the stock gasket and reinstalled, just a temp fix before I can get a replacement. Leaking ceased. I thought this was the cause of the odd running, but no.

What it's doing: It starts and runs normally in all gears. However, if I put the hammer down or accelerate quickly - like getting on an interstate or passing on two lane - the acceleration is soft, but the turbo still spins up. I had a 95 dodge and it sounds EXACTLY like that truck when the transmission started slipping. Turbo spools up with pedal depressed, truck accelerates minimally. As mentioned, it's a 6 speed manual.

I'm at a loss. Thoughts. . . plugged fuel filter that is only letting a modest amount of fuel through. I didn't get an intake line secured correctly. Turbo is dying? I redlined it and damaged some engine component? (guessing it has a redline preventer?)

Any thoughts appreciated

Thanks,
FFA

did you replace the injector/glow plug harness under the valve cover? Did you get the plugs plugged in securely on both sides of the valvecover? Sounds like maybe you have an injector not firing, or not firing properly, and possible the water separator is unrelated??????????????? Just spit balling here

I am very confident both the glow plugs and the exterior harness were plugged in correctly. I didn't/havent played with injector connections. Without having done anything to them, I assume they don't come off without effort. I didn't replace the harness, only 95k on truck.

I have to assume that fuel is completely unrelated, that or I have a truck gremlin to match my life gremlin.

If an injector was non fucntional, wouldn't there be a loss of power in all ranges? Not a significant drop off just on the high rpm side?

Looking into plugged fuel pickup in tank, but I don't want to think about it too much. It HAS to be something I screwed up with the glow plugs?
