Default 99 7.3 PSD not getting fuel?

Hello all,

I'm having a fuel issue or what I believe is a fuel issue and i'm in need of help.

subject vehicle- 1999 Ford F350 4WD 7.3 PSD with the 4R100 automatic behind it.

The Chassis itself has about 320,000 or so miles on it.

The Engine was rebuilt recently just reached 500 Hours. everything new other then the injectors which I used from the old engine.

The Transmission was rebuilt and has about 10 Hours on it.
----------

The Issue,

A few days before it finally died I noticed it taking longer to start then usual. 6 second cranking before fire to be exact, usual cranking being 3-4 seconds.

I didn't think anything of it since it had been really cold outside say 14-16 degrees in the morning. although even in that kind of cold it would always start up fairly quick.

The other night I tried to start up and it would start and sputter like it was starving for fuel or had air in the system then die after about 10-15 seconds. tried it again with the same result then after that it would only crank and fire off then die just as quick.

In the morning I removed the fuel filter, fuel was about half way up the bowl. I replaced the filter and added a little bit more fuel. I got it to start up then die again after about 20 seconds.

I could hear the lift pump on the rail turn on and buzz with the key and then sort of die off but keep going. I replaced the pump with a Airtex Master/Fuel Pump (I know it's not top of the line but it's all I had available at the moment.) The pump comes on and stays alive much better then the old one.

Still the same issue though. I'm short on ideas on what to do next? I could really use some help.

I checked all the fuses and checked for codes and nothing still.

I had my filter screens in the mixing chamber get clogged up in the tank, if you check em take the tank down remove pickup assembly carefully open up white canister remove screens reassemble and put an external filter inline before the fuel pump and ur done, if you do all that mind as well do the hutch and harpoon mod while ur in there... im sure someone else may have an idea if it could be anything else but thats what came to my mind right away only because i had to do it

Thanks for that. I plan on doing the hutch mod this summer.

I verified that I am getting plenty of fuel to the bowl. past that lies my issue.

I can start up after 10-14 seconds of cranking and rev straight to 3,000 RPM then spits and sputters like running out of fuel and dies. 10-15 seconds.

I unplugged the ICP sensor and started up, same 10-14 seconds cranking. slowly starts to come alive with throttle to the floor runs at 1,000 RPM or so for about 15 seconds then dies. doesn't sputter just falls on its face.

Granted it does sound better without the ICP plugged in but I read somewhere you can run and drive without it and I cant do that so I believe something else is going on.

Still no codes...Anyone know of a really good code reader?.

If it consistantly starts and runs for about 15 seconds and then dies then you might want to check the cam position sensor. Easy fix if thats the problem. Its a hall effect transistor and it creates a data train needed to keep the engine running.

Got her fixed. Turns out there were 3 injector O-Rings that corroded away causing the entire issue.

Traced it back to either, Bad fuel maybe the last station I was at or someone has it out for my baby

Oh well, it's fixed now and the fuel has been flushed. I'm buying a locking gas cap just in case.

I purchased an injector o-ring kit and replaced all of them. also glow plugs, glow plug relay and injector wiring harness.

A friend who works for a local diesel shop said the injectors looked brand new and checked out good.

I have about 10,000miles since this was done.
