Default Replacement cost of reman 6.4l?

Hello all,

I currently own a 2008 F350 with a 6.4l with 200,000 miles. I purchased used at 182,000 miles. My question is what is the replacement cost for a reman engine and labor? I see that jasper runs around $12,000 for a complete and Ford is at $13,000. Other places offer a long block (Asheville) for about $6,000. What is the difference between a long block and a complete? Also can anyone tell me who does a good reman? I have heard some controversy about Jasper. Currently my engine runs fine but I have learned these engines have issues which I did not realize at time of purchase. I still owe on this truck so I am trying to decide if I sell it and take my chances on an older high mileage 7.3 Powerstroke which I could pay cash for. (No more than $7000 which limits my options) Or I could keep this one and hope the engine lasts till I pay it off. I would then have to consider if it is worth the investment of a new engine. Can anyone tell me how many miles they are seeing on these engines?

Thanks

I've got 273K on my '08 F-250 6.4. Got it 5 months ago. It's been great until last week. Looks like I am going to be replacing the high pressure fuel pump to the tune of about $1300. for just parts. IF(and I stress IF) thats all I have to do to it, I'll still be ahead of the game.

Good to know there are some higher mileage trucks out there. Anyone hit 400,000 yet?

We just did a complete fuel system replacement on one with 130k at work cost $9k from Ford. Then it lost the turbos a month later another $6k. Then it got wrecked at 145k. There's horror stories and good runners. Keep a good water separator like the on dieselsite sells.

From ford dealership its around a 20000$ job to replace motor i have found 6.4s on ebay for 5000-14000$ depending on what you want meaning condition and the labor is the big ticket as 99.99 % of the time body and frame must be parted to get to the motor

hi my name is joshua flowers i also have an 08 6.4l mine is an f250 king ranch with an sct tow tune in place, i bought my truck in February and i was excited, the only thing i knew was 6.0l ps blew head gaskets so i didn't get one. when i bought my truck it had come from TX to me in NC and had the biggest tune sct gave the previous owner, my truck is only "deleted", and i bought it so i could tow my dads 12,000 lb 5th wheel 40' camper. we towed it on tune "killmode", i did not know this when i bought it, from youngsville NC to Spencer TN. just before i got there the truck lost its alternator 20 miles out from our campsite, we jumped it off every time it died till we got settled. my dad went to town and bought me a replacement alternator and a worker at the camp replaced it for free. then we started it up it misfired bad and i mean bad i got codes for, but no cel/mil, cylinder 8 imbalance and cylinder 8 misfire. we took it to a local mechanic who thought it was an injector, twas not the issue, and he only charged us for the part and no labor once he realized what was wrong. i couldn't ever afford to fix what he said was wrong, he was led to believe i had a crack in my piston and that i needed a new short block at the most if i was to fix it so for six months it sat under a tree and was not touched. my dad got a call from a friend in VT and they were to start a church together, my dad is 67 btw, so we prayed for transportation to get us where we needed to go. i believed in my heart the truck wouldn't make it, but nothing came up. when time came to leave we said a prayer asking got to set his hand on my truck to get us from Spencer TN to rutland VT over 1,000 miles away, we set off on a three day 1,100 mile journey with to my surprise no issue. truck started and idled normally, traveled 400 ish mile on day one slept at a rest area, day two 400 miles later slept at another rest area, day three woke up to start the truck and it started to idle badly again, same as before, so i let it heat up shut it of and restarted it, it idled beautifully, drove it 200 miles to rutland and it was mountainous the rest of the way there. after New York my truck started to struggle temps were fluctuating and as soon as we got to our destination i put it in park, the truck started hee hawing like it was going to die, it then threw a check engine light and you could here it rod knocking like a snare drum. i haven't moved it since. keep in mind i was towing that 5th wheel camper the whole way. if you want to see what it was for reference it is a 2019 keystone sprinter 3571. but if you go to youtube and look up "itsjusta6" he has a mustang named satan and he sorta had the same issue as me, car blew smoke bad idle he restarted it and it was fine so he drove it home, he recently tore down that motor and saw that 4 pistons had cracked ring lands, so that being said i believe thats what "was" wrong with mine ad is currently wrong with yours. do what you want with the information ive provided you. i went to lincoln tech in nashville TN to study gas motors and graduated class of 2018, so i'm new but not uneducated.

sorry about your truck, id trade out to a 2011-2016 6.2l f250 it has the same motor as the 1st gen raptor only difference is it has a different cam grind to make high 300hp and mid 400tq. sincerely Joshua Flowers.

Got the same truck. Except I bought mine(paid cash) with 107k miles on it and engine went to **** within a week. Got duped. Truck itself is in EXCELLENT condition. Looks brand new inside and out with tons of aftermarket stuff. But, whoever had it before me must have ran the **** out of it. I need to know the same thing you do.
