Question SLOW TAKE OFFS?

Hey guys, so just bought a 2004 F350 6.0 powerstroke, reg-cab 4x4 auto. So here is the problem, when I hit the gas from take off or hit the gas going 10-15mph, it takes off very slow. Its more of a take off like if you where driving grandma around. When im going 20 or faster and hit it it takes off real nice like it should, from what I can see the bad parts that made many people not want to buy a 6.0 have been changed out. Anyone have any ideas for me, I want those nice fast take off like in my other trucks. Also I ran a check and no code came up.

You might need to clean the turbo, any mods to the truck?

turbo lag. most stock 6.0l truck with no cat/muffler have this. To fix it i put a tuner on mine. Now i can smoke a set of 35x13.50 mud tires from a dead stop. although at $1700 a set i try not to.

This is the up pipe to the EGR cooler, as you can see, it scavenges exhaust gasses and we all know how a turbo works. When I took this out for an EGR cooler delete, I found some low end throttle response, even in stock mode, more so with my SCT on SRL from Gear Heads. I suggest you search EGR coolers in the Diesel Bomber search engine for more details.

If it's all stock, gauges, an SCT (SCT Live Wire does gauges), EGR cooler delete, and a 4" turbo back will really get things rolling for you. If you live in a smog area, a 3.5" down tube, 3.5" cat, 4" cat back would work too.

Stock 6.0's with no tuning have some terrible turbo lag. Start with an EGR delete like Karl said, then tuning. Should wake it up quite a bit. Keep the tuning mild until you can afford studs/gaskets. A street tune should really wake it up. Great throttle response, almost smoke free, and makes it a lot more fun to drive.

Get ready to break that wallet open. EVER since I have join this site I have bought a handful of guages and other nick nacks.... and I haven't even put my AD or sct in the shopping cart yet... These guys twist your arm over the internet OR at least make you justify the reason to purchase the extras

It's easy for us to spend your money for you too!

Start with the turbo cleaning and an EGR valve cleaning, those two things alone are nearly free, just some of your time, and whatever beers you consume during the process. Those should help right off the bat. Start there, it's cheap and easy.

If you haven't found out by now, the lag is due to the turbo sticking. I had the same exact issue you were, after doing some research on how a diesel works, i found turbo cleaner. Only down fall, they dont sell any of them in the U.S. Shping is thee killer. After i found out how they work, I bought Seafoam Top Engine Cleaner Sea Foam Spray - Sea Foam Sales Company and stopped every issue in one use. With the truck running, spray the entire can in to the turbo just past the MAS. You will hear the engine sound different while you're spaying. dont turn it off, replace hose, and go driving for about 20 minutes. My MPG was 9.6 city/16.1 hwy but now its 15.5 city/19.2 hwy.......and NO LAG!
