Default Single Cab Short Bed F-250

A buddy of mine has a 2006 F-250 single cab long bed absolute bare bones, manual windows and locks, 4x2, stick shift with 190,xxx miles. Right now it has a blown engine, he said he would let me take it for $4,500 for a drag truck project, I am wanting to make it a short bed. Has anyone chopped the frame and done a short bed conversion on one of these? What steps do I need to take to make sure that it will hold? The final setup that it will end up as is: SCSB 4x2, 12V cummins, keep it a stick shift, not SERIOUS but a fair amount of engine modification, bed stack, appropriate racing equipment. Looking for 11s or even 12s streetable. Let me know your thoughts on the idea.

There are regular cab short bed 6.0's with just an SCT with Erics tunes running 13.0x's... it's pretty impressive. If you want to run 11's with a stick shift, you're going to have to do a TON of work. Do your research before committing to this, 11's are not easy in a 3/4ton truck without some heavy mods.

You're probably better off paying a shop to do the chop on the frame. Or do a TON of research on that too, but since you asked already, it tells me you really don't know how to go about this (I doubt many do, pretty sure it's somethign I wouldn't attempt...).

This has been done many times though so there is info out there, just try searching around. The most popular and widely documented is probably stroked lightning... A guy named Gene built it, he goes by weweld on multiple forums.

Eventually I'm looking for 11s or 12s, I'd be fine starting out in the 15s until the appropriate engine mods get done. Would it be easier to just transplant the engine into an F-150 SCSB or Ram 1500 SCSB? Or would it be too much stress on the frame?

A few diesel shops like IDP and Strictly Diesel have turned their trucks into short beds, but i would definitely leave that to a pro especially with the torque a diesel puts to the rear wheels.

This might help you a little bit with the frame chopping. Good luck
