Default 04 F 550 6.0????

I just joined the form and have a few ?? on the 6.0 F550 5 speed auto I'm looking into buying.

What I have been reading there is a lot of knowledge here about these motors, the one I'm looking at has 120,000 on the OD and we will be using for hauling cars and freight and it will be grossing 30,000 - 38,000 pound on a daily basis, we have been using the 7.3 F350 but that is going to be a thing of the past now since our work load has changed and the weight has increased on our loads we need to beef up the trucks a little.

To be honest I'm a little scared of these motors from what I hear, so is this something I need to run from or what, from the test drive today it seemed to be fine shifted great and the once over of the engine compartment and the under belly there was no signs of any oil leaks.

This was a lease truck and a local dealer has it for sale so I assume it has be serviced like it should have been, I don't plan on doing any heavy mods other than maybe a cool air intake and exhaust (turbo back) The 7.3 we have run had quite a few mods to get the pulling power up to snuff, but from what I hear the 6.0 has plenty of pulling power if you can keep it going.

So you fellows that know the in and out give me some advice as what I need to look for and just some idea of what to expect to calm my fears of what I read on some of these post, some say run from them other say they would buy more. I don't know which way to go.

Thanks in advance.

I have a 04 f-250, runs good for the most part, i had problems with the egr valve carboning up. Didn't have any major issues till about 140k, oil cooler was first, then the head gaskets, put all new injectors in at 175k and just did the oil cooler again. Check the service record on the the truck and see if and how often the anti freeze has been changed. The last trip to the garage for an oil-cooler i was told that if the anti freeze is'nt changed at regular intervals that it will damage the oil-cooler and cause it to leak, or if it doesn't have the gold stuff in it, it will damage it. News to me cause i thought anti freeze was anti freeze, just don't mix it. Hope this helps.

Does Car fax or Auto check give any of this info, or is it just the oasis report

Default Oasis result

I checked at the dealer today and it has only been in four times for any type work three of the times were for recalls and the last time was for a high pressure oil problem on 10-02-08 so I don't know if this is a good sign or will I be the one to take the hit????
