Default 6.0L help for a cummins guy

alright guys i need to figure this out yesterday my dads 03 6.0 with around 114k started to roal white smoke and began to knock. have had no problems with it up to this point. the truck is 100% stock no aftermarket anything. i know the injectors are ran off of oil pressure but oil is good. could it possibly be an injector? or oil pump not supplyin enough oil so the injectors arnt firing right and the knock is from no oil supply? or could it be something with the egr valve. i have a 12v so the world of electronic diesels is somewhat out of my range. any help will be greatly appr.

If it looked clean, that's not good. Should be full of soot. Steam and coolant cleans that crap out really well.

Did it sound like a fuel knock? Was it using coolant?

i think when your egr goes bad, your NOx emissions skyrocket. the computer see's this and it alters the way the engine runs to try to reduce the NOx emissions, the way it could be running might be bad for the injectors. im thinking that and just a crappy design.
