04, 6.0 F350 (Juice Platinum w/Attitude; Volant Air Intake, EGR Block and EGR Valve mod; 4 1/2 " exhaust and AMSOIL Oil bypass system)

My blower fan hasn't come on after 2 long hauls with my travel trailer. Clutch was replaced 6 months ago. Everything worked well then. Was about to take it in when I picked up a "low voltage in FICM" DTC, so I ran a voltage test and found the alternator was bad. Since the blower fan receives its commands from the PCM, would the alternator being out prevent the blower fan from coming on due to a low voltage condition. Any help would be appreciated. Dealer want about $250.00 to answer this question (Diagnostics charge). Thanks -

I had a 150 that the alternator went on it . the computer started shutting things off as I drove . Kind of a limp home mode if you will. I'd say if you know the alternator is bad , replace it and see if the fan starts working again . I don't know if this helps but that's what I'd do . best of luck -

I thought 250 was high also. What they actually said was that the fan MAY be covered under warranty and IF the problem is other than a warranty issue it COULD run as much as 250 or more to diagnose and repair. May, IF and Could generally add up to as much or more as they estimate. I think they just want me to bring the truck in and hope for the best. -

Where are you located?

Do you have access to a scan tool?

250 isn't necessarily high, generally 2.0 hours diag, dependant on your dealer's door rate...$99.00-$125.00 an hour isn't unheard of. -

Not to be a dick or anything...but the cooling fan is an electro-viscous clutch design on the 6.0 - an extremely LOW amp draw, therefore eliminating the need for a relay. -

So is the relay another redundant part that serves no other purpose than to fail at critical moments? -

I don't have a 2004 owner's manual, so I can't tell you what's numbered as 301 - but are you talking about this?

Circled in red.

Ah. Got an 04 owner's manual. That's labeled relay 301.

That's the BLOWER FAN relay, you know, the one that keeps air circulating in the truck? The fan for the AC AND HEAT?

So yes, I can explain what relay 301 is. -
