Default Worth the Money and Time?

Looking to buy first diesel truck. Read all the horror stories for all the engines and trucks. I have the ability to go buy a new one, however I am enjoying my extra beer money right now. So with that being said, this is what i've been looking at.

2006 6.0 F350 4 Door Dually XL Truck 119,000 miles

Told all the "bullet-proofing" has been done. When I was there the truck blew white smoke. I was told it was because the programmer wasn't hooked up and that they had a tech coming to fix it in the next couple days. They said it was because of the way the recirculation system works with the EGR delete.
KBB said I should be paying 20,000 dollars for the truck. KBB said the truck trades in for 15,000 dollars. I would be paying 17,900 with an 18 month warranty on all drivetrain components to include turbo.

Looking at the truck you can see that the EGR delete system is there. It definately looks like there has been turbo work. Engine is very clean.

So, is this truck worth the time and money?

*added mileage

Find a different place to buy a truck or undercut them on the price. Even if studs were installed the white smoke is a HUGE signal something isn't right.

So let's clarify the white smoke. What was the OAT? Did you drive the truck and continue to see the white smoke? Any noticeable smell with the white smoke?

OAT? not even sure what that is. New the diesel game concerning these vehicles.

The smoke was visible during driving... during acceleration, not sure about steady speeds, but it is possible it was.

It did have a smell, wife said "it stinks" concerning the truck. But it had sort of a fuel smell to it.

Can the Programmer not being plugged up cause that? There is no unusual vibrations or anything to make me think there is a dead cylinder or anything. Truck runs smooth, no visible leaks or anything that would normally be an "oh ****" other then the smoke.

OAT= Outside Air Temperature

Sounds like excessive unburnt fuel maybe caused by a bad injector. Do trucks that have never used a tuner do this....nope. If you like the truck that much get them to drop the price down to $15k and hope there is no issues. If you are paying for the warranty DO NOT take their word for what is going to be covered. Call the warranty company directly and ask ANY question you can think of. Make sure you remember the warranty company representative's name. As I said before....walk away or get the price down.

to me that prices seems very high for an XL, plenty of XLTs and Lariots for around the same price.

stand by the exhaust and if it burns your eyes it is a bad injector, if it smells sweet then it is coolant. Also show up unannounced and start the truck cold, that is where the true symptoms will show themselves. a lot of used car dealers will start trucks that have issues in the morning to let them warm up so if someone stops by they seem good.

definately goin to try those tips. also going to look at a 2002 7.3 F350 Dually.

196,000 miles, service truck first 10 years of its life, one accident reported apparent minor damage, leather/power, 14,900.

Not sure of that price with those miles and age however the price compared to the age/mileage/interior/exterior and prices of similar trucks seems cheaper then similar trucks around here.
