tou don't have too but putting new head gaskets and ARP studs in while the motor is out will allow the truck to be modded in the future without fear of popping a head gasket. the stock bolts are weak and don't stand up to a lot of power, the ARP studs have much greater clamping force. I had 270k on my truck before I put studs in even though the stock head gaskets hadn't blown.

FORDMAN it depends on your intended goals/usage of the truck. If you enjoy the stock power you may enjoy the motor as long as you own it. This is not saying there will never be a problem. Most people will use ARPs when the issue comes up or cause they know they will be stepping up the power.

Inspecting the motor before you purchase may help you discover a motor with studs already installed.
