Default F250 6.0 ROUGH IDLE/STALL

FIRST OFF MY TRUCK IS A 2004 F250 6.0 4X4 W/FX4 PACKAGE. OIL CHANGED 2500 MLES AGO. FUEL FILTERS CHANGED APPROX. 750 MILES AGO. I HAVE THE FLASHPAQ TUNER XS MILAGE SAVER ON MY TRUCK AS OF NOW BEEN ON FOR ABOUT 15000 MILES. DRIVE MY TRUCK MAINLY ON THE HIGHWAY AS I PUSH TOOLS AND WORK 5 AND 5 SO MY TRUCK IS OUT FOR 5 DAYS THEN SITS FOR 5 OTHER THAN THE RUNNING AROUND FOR PICKING UP PARTS AND ECT...BOUGHT TRUCK W/ 145000 MILES NOW HAS 190,000.

PROBLEM STARTED ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 80 MILES TO WORK. GOT TO LOCATION WENT TO PUT IT INTO REVERSE STARTED IDLING ROUGH AND ACTED AS IF IT AS GOING TO DIE (IDLE DOWN TO ABOUT 400 - OR SO). PUT IN DRIVE DROVE FWD NO PROBLEM SP BACK INTO REVERSE NO PROBLEM. WELL A FEW DAYS LATER WENT DRIVING TO PICK UP SOME STUFF CAME TO A STOP TRUCK IDLED ROUGH AND STALLED OUT ON ME. STARTED RIGHT BACK UP PUT INTO DRIVE AND DROVE OFF. WELL LONG STORY SHORT PROBLEM GOT WORSE COULDNT NOT MAKE IT OUT OF DRIVE WAY UNTIL WARMED UP AND WITH LUCK IT WOULD NOT DO IT. TRUCK RUNS AWESOME AFTER ABOUT 10-15 MPH AND EVEN BETTER ON THE HIGHWAY DOING 70-80. COEM TO A STOP OR REDLIGHT IT ROUGH IDLE AND EITHER IDLES HIGH READY TO GO OR IT STALLS OUT.

CHANGED FUEL FILTERS LAST NIGHT AGAIN AND GOT A NEW TORQUE CONVERTOR AND PUT THAT IN AS WELL. FLUID WAS NOT NEW RED BUT IT DID NOT LOOK BAD. DROPPED PAN AND SOME METAL BUT NO MORE THAN I WOULD SUSPECT FROM 50,000 MILES. (NOT A MECHANIC) SLAPPED IT ALL BACK TOGETHER W/ NEW FILTER AND OIL AND STARTED UP AND SAME DAMN THING.

TODAY WAS DRIVING TO WORK DID THE STALLING AND ROUGH IDLE, BUT STOPPED MADE A CORNER HIT THE ACCELARATOR SMOOTHED OUT AT ABOUT 30MPH NO THROTTLE NOTHING THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN LIKE A BAT OUT OF HELL I WAS AT 70 MPH. DROVE FINE AT 75 MPH..GOT TO RED LIGHT DIED ON ME STARTED RIGHT BACK UP. GOT TO WORK PLAYED WITH REVERSE AND OTHER GEARS NO PROBLEMS IDLES GOOD AND FULL POWER ALL RPM RANGES.

LETTING IT COOL DOWN AND GO BACK OUT THERE AND SEE IF PROBLEM PERSIST.

RAN FOR CODES AS SOON AS I GOT ONTO LOCATION AND NO CODES WITH OBD-II SCANNER OR MY TUNER...I KNOW SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT JUST DO NOT KNOW WHAT. aNY HELP WOULD BE APPRECAITED. SRY FOR THE LONG *** POST BUT WANTED TO BE DETAILED AS POSSIBLE.

I would start by cleaning your turbo and checking all your sensors. Maybe check your fuel pressure to make sure your getting the right pressure. (55-65 psi) Could get one of your motorman or mechanics at work to do it while your at work. Easy to do. What kind of fuel filters did you use?

Yeah I am at the rig right now and in the morning will be testing fuel pressure and see what it is. As far as my motorman I cant even trust them on my motors . I run motorcraft fuel filters. Ive been wanting to clean my turbo but its one of those things mess it up there goes $1500, if you know what i mean. Started my truck twice since 10 this morning and shifted through all the gears drove a couple miles came back went through the gears and no problems...but I am not confident that it just mysteriously went away. Thank you for the feedback.. should of got a 7.3

Yea i know what you mean by not trusting the motorman out there. It could be just a dirty sensor or something simple like that. Maybe water getting in somewhere that doesnt like water. Turbos are pretty simple to clean. ton of write ups on here to walk you through it. and every truck has their problems even the 7.3s

yeah guess it would be a good time to go ahead and order my egr delete since my turbo will be off anyways. Yeah im hoping it is something simple and stupid especially since I spent 8 hrs yesterday tearing down my tranny and replacing torque convertor. Going to start checking all my fuel stuff in the morning at daylight and see what I can find. I know they all have their problems but seems like you hear a lot more about the 6.0...but can not complain have put about 50000 with no problems. Guessing you work in the oilfield your self

that i do offshore with noble drilling. 6.0s can be really good trucks with the right maintenance and care. Take care of the problems early then you will have a truck that lasts. egr delete is a good choice. Turbo lines also and the stc fitting and dummy plugs while your that far already would be good to do.

I just went through similar issues and mine was the ipr valve screen. Replaced it and so far it runs better than when I bought it. Pretty sure I caused mine when I did oil cooler rebuild and egr delete and got some trash in the system and it bent my screen. Hope this helps I'm no mechanic but my symptoms were pretty similar.

thats a good possiblity. when you do all your upgrades like the egr delete your ipr screen will be right there. wouldnt hurt to check. mine was also messed up when i did my oil cooler and everything
