Default Black smoke and rough idle after Standpipe and Dummy Plug upgrade???

So today, after a few weeks of Hot No-Start issues, I replaced the standpipes and dummy plugs on my later model 2004 Ford F-350 6.0L, 92,000 miles. Took several attempts to start after I got her all buttoned up, just like it did when I replaced injectors last year, but it started and ran. Only thing is that it is now belching black smoke when I step on the acceleration pedal and it seems to idle rough (just different that it did before).

The truck was driving like a top before I completed the standpipe and dummy plug upgrade.

Could I of bumped or failed to conntect something?

Black smoke makes me think its not burning the fuel properly, but I hear the turbo kick in and spool up but that doesnt sound right either.

Still have the Hot No-Start issue so I guess its time for the STC fitting.

Thank you for your help.

I doubt you have an STC fitting if it's an 04, the truck will run like crap for a while till you get the air out of the system, may take 40 miles of good driving to clear it up. anytime you pull an oil rail off check the orings on top of injectors, if one of those is torn it will be a high pressure oil leak. If one of those oil supply orings in top of injector is bad it can be replaced, they can b found on ebay, it comes with a new retaining ring too, they were only available to rebuilders untill recently and it's alot better then buying a whole new injector.

Thanks a bunch BOBFBIGMAN!!! Drove the truck around today and the smoke cleared up and she is running great, just like you said, after about 20 miles.

So would you recomend the air test to see where my high pressure oil leak is or there something else should I do? Still wont start when hot.

Thanks for the help.

The air test is still the best thing to do to find a leak

I agree, going to have to air test it for sure.

Well, I just got the truck put back together after completing the air test found that the screen on my IPR valve had popped off and the o-ring was trashed. replaced the o-rings and screen. AIR TEST held air in the system and I could not hear any air leaking from either the DR or PASS side injectors.

So I have replaced the stand pipes and dummy plugs on both sides and replaced the screen and o-rings on the IPR...

Started right up today after just a couple of tries. I got her good and wormed up. Shut it down and still HOT NO START.

Any suggestions? Thank you...

I also changed the oil today after all the wrench work.
