Question Whats your mileage?

ok so its been awhile since i have driven my truck, new baby and getting married and such, but i used to commute about 1000 miles a week, and then go play on weekends, hauling my jeep, now i know when i was loaded i would get as little as 12-14mpg, but just highway driving, i would average about 18-20 depending on traffic, i have been looking at another truck to buy, with all of the same basic features as mine, but it has a banks turbo, instead of the one i have, and my truck has a 45 gallon rear tank(it was a wallet thief when diesel was almost $5.50gal) and the owner says his truck only gets 12-13mpg unloaded

So i am wondering two things, whats your mileage on average?

and would there be that big of a mpg differance between turbos?

I had my 85 to 24 once or twice on the highway. Towing my International 1066 I get about 13-15.

Default 1994 ford f250 idi turbo diesel

my truck is stock other than 4" straight pipe into 6" dual stacks with the pump turned up 3/8 of a turn and the pump timing advanced 1/16 of an inch. to me thats a good place to leave it. you have the perfect amount of smoke and power for an idi. at this setting i get anywheres from 10-13 MPG. For me that is not much different from when it was stock.

I have a 85 f250 6.9 srw flatbed 4 speed with 3.75s with 3 in straight y-pipe back to a 5 in tip with k&N filter every time I checked I got 15.6 mixed driving. Anyways to improve mileage or do I need a 5 speed?

unless you put in the 3.73 gears, you dont have them. ford never used them in our era. it will be either 3.55 or 4.11

yeah 15.5 to 20 mpg's for an idi is good..... i average 16+ most of the time.... and mines turned up 1 1/2 flats or so, add atf to the tank, i put half a quart in each tank every other fill or so..... keeps the injectors cleaned up..... in the summer i run a gallon or filtered ( 5 micron) to the tank every fill up... smokey but cool... .....

Unloaded I average 18-20. Pulling a 9,000 lb horse trailer mixed hills and highway, I average 13-15. But I don't drive fast either. Mine gets better on backroads usually. She gets scared over 60mph. 4.56 gears ain't ideal for highway running. But she will pull. Pumps stock. Dual 3"to glasspacks cut behind the cab. Soupbowl removed. I baby the old girl until it's time to work, then she hammers. I just gotta get an over-drive of some kind.

Before i put the 7.3 in the 6.9 got 17-20 easily in city and highway. The 7.3 as long as it stays below 60 gets around 18. 86 reg cab 4spd 4x4 with 3.55s
