Default Question about injector return lines 6.9L

My 85 6.9 needs new injector lines. There's a couple leaky spots and one spot where I have some wire loom rubbing the rubber coating off. And it looks like someone might have done a homemade/redneck fix on it before but I was wondering, if everything else looks good, can I just get some fuel line hose or something to replace the lines with or do I need to get the same stuff as what's on there? I know the kits are cheap and you get everything to replace them but was just wondering. Without any work, I need to save where I can because I have a few things to fix on my truck: speedometer, tach(not important but would be nice to have it working), both sending units(ones crapped out completely and the other is on its way out), turn signal switch, repack front bearings, and hubs this summer, plus I'll need to get tires this summer too, or at least before winter. Thanks in advance for any help!

It's real small hose. Best bet is to run the same that's on there. But be forewarned, they aren't cheap.

OFI has the kit for like 33 bucks or somewhere around there. Also saw them on ebay as low as 23.

replace the entire return line system. as soon as u replace the lines, the orings under the caps will leak. when u replace the orings, the caps will crack.

just get a kit.

Are you sure your injector line is leaking? It you get a leak on the metal lines it doesn't drip it sprays.

I got all new return lines and caps with orings a lot cheaper from a truck shop then I could from a Ford dealer.

You need to do the o-rings as well, or it wont stop leaking.

You might want to get viton o-rings as well, they dont harden up and leak as easily as the regular rubber rings. The rings are sold in packs of 50 for about $10 from mcmaster-carr. I got some after my new rubber o-rings began leaking 2 months after installation. No leaks with the vitons so far.

Got my injector return line kit in a couple days ago. Ordered it from Diesel Care in Memphis for $23. With this guy being interested in my truck I'm not sure whether I want to deal with putting them on or just let him deal with it. Got a new fuel filter to put on too.
