I am in the process of purchasing a 1993 gmc 1 ton dually with a 6.5l td, and will have it this weekend. The only issue with the truck that I have found is the speedometer. It seems to not operate until it reaches about 65mph, then works just fine until you shut down the truck, then go through the same thing the next time it starts. The owner said his mechanic claimed the sensor could be dirty. Is there a servo moter behind the dash that would effect this, and what would be a good way to troubleshoot this before buying several parts? I have been told the servo can be an issue, and that the speed sensor on the tranny is not really prone to issues. The sensor would be an easier replacement I would think. Any insite would be great. Thanks.

By the way, I know this is a premature post as I will not have the truck for a few days. I just want to get started as soon as possible. Again, thanks.

heres the story: i was driving back to school 200 miles one way when i got to about 190 miles i went to push the pedal down to pass some slow pokes.keep in mind this is going 55-70 mph (different speed limits) in a k5 blazer with a 6.2 and 35s on 3.73 gears. when the trans kicked into passing gear it just felt like it went into neutral reving up again and again not going into gear. it shifts into first and second fine but once it gets up fast enough to shift into drive it semms it goes into neutral. what are the solutions? new trans or would lucas trans fix help this out? or linkage? or would it be something else?

:argh:Ok, fellas here is a doozie for ya! 1997 3500 4x4 with the ever popular 6.5. with 195500 miles
I changed the injecters with dieselcare.com performance marine diesel fuel injector nozzles. I had a few leaking injecters but i fixed that, then i had a leaking heater element in the fuel filter housing, and fixed that, then i had a lot of jerking and crap going on so i relocated the PMD with a new one, i sill had a small fuel leak so i pulled the intake and changed rubber hoses. i don't see a leak so i think i got it licked! BUT.......now whe i give it full throttle i get the slight jerking like it's not getting enough fuel but only during WOT or when it's under a load. I have installed a new vacuum line to the wastegate, new fuel filter, new injecter nozzles. Any ideas as what it might be??????????????????????????????????

I have been debating for a long while if I should upgrade the exhaust system on my truck.
I made a mistake and put on 3" pipes with Magnaflow muffler, but I kind of lost that diesel sound. The biggest reason I guess is the bends they made, by crashing the pipes instead of mandrel bend. The down pipe is stock, and just 3 inch down from there, what I was wondering if anyone upgraded to 4 inch system, and if there are benefits or just waste of money. I looked at the SSD stainless system for $499, would that be a good choice, or please I'm open to suggestions. Thanks a lot.

Hey guys have and oil pressure gauge problem. I purchased my first diesel truck a few minths ago and I know what you are saying "what took you so long?" When I pruchased it I noticed when I accelerated the oil pressure gauge would stock flickering and jumping around and the check gauges light would come on. I ded check the oil level and oil pressure and that is all good. 60psi warm and cruising. It only happens when I accelerate. Once I am up to speed and cruising it stops doing it. It sounds electrical to me. I had a gas suburban that did this every once in a while but it would do that any time. Like I said I am new to the diesel scene so everything is a little different. I don't even know where the oil pressure sensor is to check the wires or replace it. Any help would be appreciated.

My truck is a 95 3500 dually 6.5 turbo - replaced the motor about 4 months ago with a motor from another truck i bought off craigslist. The guy told me it was a rebuilt motor but it turns out it was a factory crate motor from a local dealership. Anyways, the serpentine belt just started the jump off..... it came off 3 times yesterday and it only came off while i was starting the truck. if it stayed on during the start then it would stay on with no problem. i got to looking at the altenator as i was releasing the idler pulley while putting the belt on the last time and as i released the idler the alt would move....it was minimal movement lets say about an 1/8 to 3/16" but enough i could notice it...SO..... my question is..... anyone ever hear of the top alt bracket losing its shape or strength ? I havent but who knows.....my quick fix for the last time it popped off was taking 2 quarters out of my pocket and wedging them underneath the alt bracket ..... guess what....started up 15 times today with no problems

Anyone with suggestions ? or should i just replace ?:rocking:

Hi, I have a 1993 6.5l turbo mechanical IP, 4l80e auto 4x4. Upon purchasing the truck last month i noticed a lack in power when towing and lots of black smoke and random stalling. I could hear the turbo wistling. I found the inline fuel pump was shot and repaced it, that solved the stalling, made it run better but now hear no turbo anymore. So i installed a boost gage and get 0. I wired shut the wastegate and still Opsi. other than checking the waistgate itself for damage and the fins, looking for play in the shaft(which all seem ok) are there any other steps in checking the turbo? whats that tube going to gasser fuel pumb loctaion for?
