i recently bought a 1985 f250 6.9turbo 4x4 w/4spd and there are a couple things that are wrong with it that i have no idea what they are.

1. i tried starting it today when it was cold and that glow plug light kept flashing on and off and i heard the controller clicking but it would start until my dad sprayed starting fluid:ouch:. is this the glowplugs or the controller?

2. is there any kind of clamp or something that goes on the exhaust side of the turbo to the downpipe because it is smoking out of the exhaust side around the edge of the downpipe.

3. when i was tryin to start it, it quit turning over witht the key. i had the clutch in and all that and it still wouldn't work even after we tightened some wires so we had to start it by using a screwdriver in the start solenoid to get it to turn over. what could cause this?

4. this is the worst. when ever you have the truck in gear and the clutch all the down, it keeps pulling. if you don't hold the brake to the floor, the truck will go like you let out halfway on a good clutch. then to get into first or reverse, you have to shut the truck off to get it in\out of gear. is this the clutch or the slave cylinder?

any advise is appreciated.

I picked this truck up really cheap. It,s a93, f350 ,xlt ,4 door,4x4, 5speed, very clean in and out. $250.oo bucks. PROBLEM. My friend was driving the truck when it broke. He pulled a long hill with a load on. No problems. As he descended it developed a mis. It was immediatly shut off and trailered home. Initial inspection showed no obvious problems. He changed the oil and filter. It then developed a ticking noise, like a lifter. The longer he ran it, the more noises it made. Like gaulded bearings. Also, it took awhile for the oil to come up through the push rods. Oil pressure seems fine. I,m not to familiar with this motor. Any help will be appreciated. 130,000 miles,Fleet serviced.:humm: Thanks.

I have changed the injector pump, and the return lines. It's running better than it was, but still dies. I'm ready to burn it.
It's a 1990 f-350 7.3 with an automatic trans.
I'm thinking fuel pump next....

Iam thinking about buying a 86 F350 6.9 diesel from a family i do work for. It is a crew cab, 8ft bed, dually, manual. They are willing to give it up to me for 300 bucks which seems like an awesome deal. Iam not familiar with diesels and this one has been sitting for about 3 years, the reason he parked it was because he wasent driving it much since he has a new powerstroke and one of the injectors was sticking. He has receipts for a new clutch and bell housing he did in it 4 years ago and hardly drove with it. What type of problems should I worry about since it has been sitting for so long? Also it doesent get too cold where i live, ussually in the winter its about 15-20 degrees, very rare for it to be below 0 and it hasent been plugged in. What kind of problems can that cause?

thanks in advance and great forum

I havea 1992 ford 7.3 diesel. I just nowhad to repace the radiator and switched it with a manual one. I put a transmission cooler on it to make up for the rad not having one. Anyway since I have driven it today It goes into gear and drives good until it goes ito either 2nd or 3rd. Then it does a hard shift and acts like it not going to go into gear at first. Then it does and it wont switch to over drive it stays in 3rd. I have never had a problem switching the cooler like that before. I was thinking a sensor may hve went out or even the overdrive button, cause it doesnt do anything pushing it either way. Any help would be appreciated.

Well..was driving down the highway and turned on the heat, and smoke started flying out of the vents..got to where I was going and took out part of the dash to see if there was any burnt wires and nothing.

Fast forward today..it still does it off and on, and while it smokes it also fogs up all my windows..well stopped by a buddys today and he said he thinks its my heater core because smoke wouldn't fog up my windows like that..I'm guess he would know being hes a firefighter..fast forward to now and Googled signs up of a bad heater core and yup..I found this
How to Tell If Your Heater Core is Going Bad | eHow.com

Number 2 states: "Look for abnormalities at the vent or defroster ducts. Look for puffs of smoke coming out of either one of these. Check to see if the windshield fogs up while or after running the heater or defroster."

Which is exactly what its doing..so has this happened to anyone else and it turned out to be the heater core? Just how bad is it to change one of these? I know you have to pull the dash off..that shouldn't be to hard..with all screws, the steering wheel is fine where its at though right? Once that is off is much harder? A buddy of mine that works for Ford said he would help me but I'd like to get an idea whats going to go down.
