Bought a 241K 1996 F350 with the 7.3L. Its a duelly and crew cab. When i got it (my first truck i have ever owned in my 43 years) i was pretty happy. Up until i took a drive in my neighbors Dodge that has exhaust and a chip. At that point my truck was slow as far as i was concerned - but i do a lot of towing in my company and the 7.3L has a good rep. I bought the truck from a family member for 2500.00. It has 241K a rebuilt tranny that has the shift kit and new converter, it shifts hard and tight. Other then that - bone stock. It revs at 2500 at 75mph, gets 15mph at 62mph.. sucks diesel in town - fun truck... big truck... Well today i installed the Edge CS into it.... The truck litterally feels like a race car in Race mode - i never did get to extreme and wont as in race mode the truck is way faster then a large truck should be. I did try 0-60 and 1/4 times to see what it would do in race mode. 16.4 in the 1/4 and 8.1 in the 0-60. I set it back to tow mode when i got back to the house. I have a stock exhaust under it and will be running a 4" exhaust next week. I have to say - i am VERY VERY impressed with diesel power. I am AMAZED on how cruising at 55 and i pucnc it - 70mph is in no time at all... Actually it feels a lot like a muscle car. The down side is now it is REAL hard to stay out of the throttle. Amazing.... :c: One other thing i did was tried it at a road where i had punched it and when i passed the 60mph sign i was doing 57mph.... in tow mode today i was doing 74mph.... when this thing pulls hard above 1900 rpm - i am assuming off the line that is called turbo spool as for the first 10 to 15mph is is pretty slow, but when it hits 1900 rpm is runs like a scalded cat.... :tu:

Okay I've got to get this off my chest. I'll start off by saying that 90% of the time my truck is tuned very clean; I use compressed air to tune the AFC and so on. But on to my soapbox...

I have head it up to my chest of seeing some new members even mention the word smoke and then 10 different people proceed to hammer him for the next 3 pages of the thread. I'm against "smoking out" people and all that dumb stuff, but don't you think we're going a little overboard? I understand we're concerned about keeping our sport of diesel performance around, but do we need to take the measures we do? I believe we should politely, but sternly, point the individual in the right direction and correct them about how inconsiderate it is when they smoke out people. If we run them off with what is said in the next five posts, how can we expect to have an impact on that person, and perhaps change the way they think?

I'll close this out by making a bold statement: I like black smoke. I'm not scared to say it. Do I roll huge clouds out when I go through town hoping that people will see me? No. Do I smoke out cars, bikes, pedestrians, etc.? Heck no. But if I'm driving down a dirt road out in the country, I will admit I get a sense of satisfaction laying into my truck and watching a cloud of black smoke mix with the cloud of dust behind me. It's my fuel bought with my money and I'll use it how I please. Thats just me, and who I am. But just know I'm also here to protect our sport of diesel performance.

My .02 guys :hellox:

I am selling my truck soon due to the fear of something else tearing up... The truck has had way too many problems for my likings.

I found a 1998 12v dually with 186000 on the clock, 5 spd, VERY clean, rust free, one small dent on the fender, but other than that, it is very clean looking. the only problem, it is 4 hours away and i havent been able to go check it out yet. It is a dealership and they are asking $12,900 for it, but I might be able to bring it down some. Is this a fair price for the truck, or should I be cautious, or what?

Never owned a cummins, but I've heard all the hype about them, especially 12v's.

if i do go for a test drive, what should i check for? what were the common problems for this year? need to know as much info as i can before wasting gas on the drive to go see it.

heres the link, check it out first! Shook Auto
The quest for double-digit fuel economy at 88,000 pounds! There are more than 2 million truck drivers currently employed in the United States, and something like 150 billion miles are logged each year during their travels. With ever-tightening emissions standards, new 2012 rigs are mired in the 5- to 7-mpg range, which equates to quite a hefty fuel bill by the end of the year.

Hello,
I am about to go through emissions testing with my diesel and the procedure consists in revving the engine up to the governed speed, fast and for a short duration, with no load
A. Any reason to be concerned considering the engine is in good condition ?

B. Smoke output is measured, so based on that, what can be done to limit smoke ? I am going to use a new air filter and judging by what I see in my rearview mirror, disabling the EGR cuts down smoke (more clean air) under load, I can only see a haze at night. Anything else I can do ? It's a Bosch VE pump, with AFC.

My diesel is stock, with the exception of a muffler delete.

Understanding The Basics Of The Most Neglected Lubricant In Our DieselsSometimes months or even years can go by before diesel truck owners think of their axles’ gear lube. Although the intervals between axle oil changes can be stretched as long as 50,000 miles in some cases, under severe use (such as towing heavy), it’s a good idea to change your gear oil every 15,000 to 20,000 miles.
Exclusive First Drive of Chrysler’s Big Rig Ram Concept TruckThis kind of thing almost never happens. The truck you’re looking at on these pages—the one on the cover of the magazine towing a 13,500-pound, 28-foot trailer—was built as a concept truck to be transported to truck shows across the country. It’s called the Ram Long-Hauler, and it was built by Chrysler’s Innovation Group to showcase premium pickup features, future trends, and to entice fullsize truck buyers into their local Ram dealer. It wasn’t intended to be put in the hands of a diesel magazine and be driven across the United States. Or at least, that’s the official story, anyway…
A Compound-Turbo GMC Built Right— The Second Time AroundAndrew Murdoch thought he paid a reputable shop to turn his ’03 GMC Sierra into a high-horsepower monster. What he got instead was a horrible mess. When an incorrectly ported cylinder head cracked and allowed coolant to flow into the combustion chamber, his brand-new (and expensive) built motor was ruined. Diagnosing the Duramax’s failure was a nightmare because almost every sealing surface on the drivetrain leaked. The transfer case was the only exception—but that was because nobody had ever refilled it with ATF.
An Insider’s Look At Seven Trucks Ford Never BuiltThe introduction of the Super Duty for the ’99 model year marked the first time in Ford’s production history that the ¾- and 1-ton truck platform was completely different from the F-150. The Super Duty even broke away from the F-150 in the looks department, as different body lines and a bigger, bolder front end further distinguished its appearance from its ½-ton counterpart. The result of Ford’s move toward a commercial-grade, distinctly styled truck paid off—it effectively revolutionized the heavy-duty pickup segment and the Super Duty is one of the best-selling, most recognizable vehicles on the road today.
