Default New 2012 3500 Ordered!

I just ordered a 2012 3500 Longhorn Crew Cab Longbed 4x4. Can't wait to get it! This truck will get short, around town drives a lot, with long distance towing thrown in 6 or 8 times a year. I'm leaning towards doing the DPF/EGR deletes as soon as I take possession of the truck - thus voiding the warrantee. It will definitely take the 5 years before it hits 100k. Any opinions on doing the deletes right away? Or waiting until the warrantee is over. How much damage would I do to the Cummins in 5 years? How much fuel mileage would I gain with the deletes? Should I take out the catalytic converter also? I sure don't like the idea of feeding that Cummins soot from the EGR! This truck is going to have to last me a long, long time. I maintain my vehicles meticulously, and I really think the chances of a major drivetrain failure are slim. Maybe I should just hold off on the deletes/programmer until I make sure all the bugs are out. I don't need any more than stock power, so the programmer would be to deal with the deletes only. Anybody have any issues with the dealer on warrantee coverage with deletes? This will be my first diesel vehicle, I want to take good care of it. Opinions anybody? Now I need to sell my pristine 52k "05 1500 Hemi Crew Cab Longbed! Thanks

I would personally wait until the warranty expires... It can get pretty price if something was to go wrong!

I'd probably give it a few months to show any bugs that the dealership should attend to. Warranty service with a programmer will be dicey at best, and the deletes will make it technically illegal under federal law. Not saying I wouldn't do it, just hold off a bit.

I would recommend waiting between 3000-5000k before you delete. Just to give it some time to see if anything happens. Knock on wood that it wouldnt happen

I'm in the same boat. I plan on waiting a little while to make sure there are no issues before doing any mods.

So which color did you go with? I ideally wanted the bright white but looking at it a few times I felt like it was a standard work truck. So I went with the deep cherry along with the Slate/Russet interior. Didn't want the pebble beige/bark brown cause of the laser etching on the seats.

I'm loving my truck, hopefully you get yours soon and start enjoying it as well!!

I went with Deep Molten Red over White Gold. Same name as the color on my 2005. That one is over Silver. For the interior, I went with Pebble Beige/ Bark Brown - with the etching. I had a hard time deciding on the interior, I like the darker seats with the etching, but I don't like the lighter Pebble Beige pieces. The Russet had the dark Slate plastic. If I could have gotten Dark Slate / Bark Brown I would have gone for that! You can get the Bark Brown with or without the etching. I won't be taking delivery of the truck until sometime in July. I work offshore in the oil patch, and won't be home anyway. My wife has agreed to at least try driving my 2005 Crew Cab Longbed 1500 to see if she would rather drive it instead of her 200,000 mile Corolla! I think once she drives it for a couple of weeks, she will be comfortable in it and I can keep my 52,000 mile baby along with the new truck! I'm keeping my fingers crossed! The Corolla has been a fantastic car for her, but I truly hate driving it. Gonna need to replace it before long anyway, so why not keep the other truck? I'm leaning toward getting all the bugs out for a while before doing the deletes. I'm just afraid I'm gonna be clogging up the DPF pretty often with the type of use it will get around town. It wll get a fair amount of highway miles too - at least during hunting season! When we retire in a few years it will get some heavy towing miles. Do you have your truck yet? Or is it ordered also?

I picked up my truck on Saturday, burnt a full tank of diesel already!!! Lol.

The dealer had the color you were looking for in stock but wasn't a dually... Or else I would've picked up that color.

I would definitely wait to delete for a few thousand miles. My 2011 has a nasty lifter tic in the am. I've had it to Dodge and they say it's not bad enough for them to fix. One mechanic said he couldn't hear it at all and I had them stand it next to a new one they had to show him the difference. Just can't find good help these days! I have some other issues with Dodge right now so I don't want to push their buttons to hard yet but once the other thing is resolved then I'm going to force them to fix it. Don't get me wrong these are great trucks, I'm just having some problems with Dodge but like I said I get it straightened out eventually.

You are going to LOVE that truck...I bought a 2012 2500 longhorn 4x4 , 3.42 limited slip,
just plain sweet. I have only put 500 miles on it, but as the above posts, I am going to give it some time before I do the deletes. First impressions, engine runs way hotter than my 2002 5.7, mileage is about 3 mpg less but lot more power. Firm believer that heat kills, so I will plan my mods carefully....enjoy
