Grease Front Drive Shaft (CV Joint)
#22
Still haven't had a U-joint problem. At 84,000 miles now and they are still tight. Maybe the manual tranny helps, though, I dunno. Got 11 years at Campbell, Wagon. Loved that place. Thanks for keepin' me free.

A friend of mine called me about this very subject today so I came back to look at the nozzle needle picture.
FWIW On my 2006 with 48RE Transmission the rear U-joints went out at 115,000 miles, the left front drive axle joint went out about the same time. I'm getting to be an old fart so don't do much racing around anymore but I do haul a 14,000 pound Fifth Wheel around the country.
The replacements from Napa do have grease fittings.

They are a huge pain i grease mine all the time but when i had to do the u-joints it was wore so i replaced it now the Ujoints are just as big a pain to grease. lmao these trucks are as bad as women always needing some kind of attention.

I check to see every time I have it service and them take in back in and tell them to get the grease guy under my truck and get it greased as when they forget I get to see him fight with it and the look of shame on his face after being caught not doing his Job

Since mine is an 04.5, it doesn't have the grease point like the later trucks, and must be "lubed for life". This didn't bother me since the shaft doesn't spin in my case.
While I had the front shaft out, I used a grease hypodermic needle (not the big blunt needle used for the double cardan joint, but a true hypodermic needle) and injected grease under the rubber ring. Greasing it using the hypodermic was easy enough to complete, and should provide some lubrication.
