Advise on OM627 donor stripping
Think I may have found a donor '82 300SD to use in a comanche with an AX-15. I don't have the space to leave the donor sitting around till I complete the project. Besides the engine, what else should I pull off the donor? From my readings, others have used the motor mounts, exhaust, vaccum switches from the HVAC, and front coil springs for a little lift. Anything else I should grab just in case?

Make sure you get everything for the glow plugs, especially the relay. Also, make sure you get the vacuum shut off switch to shut down engine. The air filter assembly will flow more air that your engine can consume. They are also better than aftermarket units I am told.ForcedInduction can explain this better than I.Get the down pipe from the turbo to the exhaust.Radiator and hoses will help. You must use the oil cooler. Most Benz engines have piston oil squirters to cool them.Get all the AC and power steering lines.Starter and alternator wiring. Also get the throttle cable or linkage that goes to the pedal.Get all the engine mounting parts, even the part on the frame.Cut it out.

ben2go - Thanks for the input.
Where are the glow plug relay and the vacuum shut off switch located? On the firewall or under the dash inside? Seems like I've read where some folks used vacuum switches from the hvac system to shut down the engine?
Every OM617 conversion I've run across appeared to have an aftermarket cone type of air filter - wonder why? Might have to move the battery to the driver's side of the engine bay to use the stock MB air filter and induction tube since the 300 has the battery next to the firewall?
How about the MB cruise control? The planned receipient '89 comanche has cruise on the 4.0. Not sure how it's servo gets it signal whether its from the speedometer or vacuum? Either way, do I need to get more of the MB cruise parts or will the Jeep cruise work since I'm retaining the Jeep AX-15?
jeep-dsl - This donor has some aftermarket wheels so no luck there. I've been e-mailing you about your adaptor kit...guess we'll see how it works out.

The switch you want is on the firewall, it is called the overboost soloid but we use it to shut down the motor. The glow relay is on the drivers side fender well as is the tac signal amp. Also get the radiator overflow tank. The reason I didn't use the stock air cleaner is it interfeared with the A/C box so I used a cone filter at first, but switched to the California Benz unit after relocating the battery. (the cone filter was restricting)
