Default Ford county to cummins?

Hello, I've got a 1960's Ford county super six, which is a workhorse of a tractor, but with 70 HP from a 362inch engine, and a weight of 5 tons, it's a bit underpowered... besides the fact it leaks oil like a sieve and drinks a lot of fuel as well

I'm debating wether I should play around with a turbo on it... give it 10 PSI or so, non intercooled or look for a cummins 5.9, which is a roughly similar engine as far as external dimensions

Any thoughts?

On tractors such as that one the engine is essentially the frame and is built into the tranny... a cummins is designed for a truck for a reason. Furthermore, a cummins motor will most likely cost more than the tractor itself is worth...

well, we aren't going to sell the thing because it does just what we need it to do, and we've already put 2G's into it in tires alone. if you need a part form it, we have a parts tractor

As for the engine being part of the frame, on these tractors it IS NOT, which would simplify the swap process. Does anyone know if the pistons are oil cooled on these engines?

Yes they have cooling nozzles for each piston. Find a 12v from a 94-98 and stuff it in there

what does it use for the bellhousing config? can you turn up the fuel on your IP? if you can then a turbo on the stock engine might be an idea. being its a 1960's model it might not hold up that well with one tho. if you can find a complete cummins truck for cheap for a parts supply then i say go for it.

The Cummins B series is an industrial engine used in everything from Yard locomotives to irrigation pumps. It was not designed as a truck engine. First Gen 12 valves can be had for about $1000-1400. I would venture to guess his tractor is worth more than that.

You will want to find a first gen motor that had an auto behind it because it will have the lowest power rating... I can't believe I just said that.

...

I might find a CT26 turbo from a toyota diesel and stuff that on the county engine at 10 psi for now and I'm sure I can find a way to turn up the fuel on the pump, it's nearly identical to the 12V pumps, as it's a bosch design as well, and if it doesn't hold up, the cummins it is..
