cummins shopping
Im thinking about a cummins swap in my ex-military 86 Chevy. The old 6.2 will just never make the power I want. On kind of a low budget but found two possibles. One is a '90 dodge truck but I dont know if the early injection pumps are worth tuning or if a p-pump swap is esier. The other option is a 5.9/Allision combo that supposedly came out of an old bus or straight-truck. I dont know how identical these engines are to the dodges but the non-computer Allision sounds like a good idea. Anybody that knows more than me would be helpfull, thanks

Well what kind of power are you looking for? The '90 will still make great power, it will be overtaken by the P-7100 at some point, but don't knock it too hard, it will still perform. You will need fairly tall gears to run the allison on the highway for lack of O/D. The engines are almost completely identical, except for some minor details. But, the good thing is, that these engines are all dimensionally the same (12V's) and anything that will bolt onto a '89 Dodge engine will bolt onto 'XX bus engine etc..
