It's very hard to get a reason for something like that, I guess because people just keep repeating "Suchandsuch transmission just won't live behind X engine" because that's what they've been told... Kinda becomes "common knowledge", even though most of the people spouting it don't know why, and probably haven't tried it.

The only thing i can see for gm transmissions is that most gm engines idle at 900-1000 rpm and cummins is building so much torque my 1000-1500 that the trans isnt building enuff pressure to function and lock clutches enough, but the allisson come on it was designed to be behind that engine in a much heavier vehicle ... Alot of guys on youtube running 6bt with turbo400 beating the snot out of them i was thinking this route at one time and still do .. Thank u for your time and reply i really want to complete the swap

The 4L80 can handle the cummins but a factory torque converter can't handle it. I'd upgrade to a billet triple disk. Optishift will handle the trans controller with 3 programmable settings. Otherwise I think you will need a body lift or end up doing alot of chassis or body/firewall mods to fit the 6bt

I think the 96 dodge trans is electronic but you should have the parts in the donor. Might try using the dodge cross members to hold the trans and tcase in or modding them to work. Need to check length and width for drive lines and drive line angles, torsion bar cross member clearance, and might have to massage the trans tunnel some.

It should work, it doesn't take alot to get an Allison to squeeze into a 1500hd so a dodge trans will surely fit.

I think the non-electronic trans makes your life easier.

I would use as much of that Dodge as possible for the swap... including the front axle for SFA (HD steering, a good tracbar, & Ford hubs/shafts cures the usual ailments).

Can you elaborate on the ford hubs and shafts? Reason for using ? Will it elimanate cad? Also years to use for non abs. Thank you for reply

Dodge axles are notorious for losing wheel bearings and u joints in the front axles

Its a non-ABS solution....

Basic unit-bearing elimination:
-----------------------------
Ford bearing hubs, locking hubs, & spindles from a '78-97 Dana 60 or '80-97 Dana 50ttb
Ford stub axles from '78-97 Dana 60
Ford 78-79 F250 rotors

CAD delete (optional):
---------------------
Ford Superduty 99-04 (Dana 60) long side axle shaft... its a touch short, but it works.
35-spline side gear
...
If you want the other side to be 35 spline too, get two side gears and a 78-79 Ford Dana 60 short side and trim it about 1/4".
