Happy to hesr this worked out so well. How does it compare to the 2.5L? Mileage and power wise? The track bar deal sounds pretty scary. I also used IRO track bar, straightened the bend out of it first. Post up some pics!

Hey guys, I am about to start this swap. I have my xj basically disassembled (seriously) for a major build. I have the engine, trans, and tcase, out. Its just been lifted 7.5 on a IRO long arm kit. Plated the Uni rails front to back. all new floor pans, 8.8 rear end...probably more I can't think of right now. Anyhow I have 2 om617s, gonna pick the peach of them and try this install out. I have a pile of questions, especially about motor mounts and if trans and tcase maintain stock locations. I have searched the internet for for motor mount ideas and this is the only thread Ive seen with anything useful. If you can point me in a good direction Id appreciate it.

If you can fabricate make your own, if not try this

The Mercedes stock rubber mounts suck otherwise those look to be a bolt on option. At the very least I would use those hard parts and make different mounts work, the Corvette mounts I used are a good option. I don't think the location of the trans and tcase change if you have the manual. For all those reading this in the future THIS IS A BOLT ON OPTION FOR TCASE LINKAGE http://www.boostwerksengineering.com/231-HD-Shift-Linkage-Auto-Trans-_p_25.html

Evenglass,
Did your corvette mounts lift your engine at all versus the mercedes mounts?

Thanks evenglass. Been watching your thread for 4 or 5 months. Lots of good info here. When I called the guy at mercedesdiesel4x4.com he told me he wasn't making motor mounts for cherokees because he was having issues making reliable ones. I guess that has changed. While I could fab the mounts, Id have to make a dozen sets before I came to a good design. So it seems to be cheaper in the long run, as well as easier on my time constraints to just buy those.

About 3/8" I'd say compared to a fresh Mercedes mount. Like an 1-1/4" compared to the collapsed Mercedes mount.

Evenglass, a couple pages back you mentioned getting the dimensions of the corvette mounts, where you able to do that at all? Also how much have they settled from stock.

Thanks
Ken

That link has dimensions under details. I don't believe they have compressed/settled at all, very robust mount. I'll try to measure them in place later.

I appreciate it very much. With my motor and transmission placement it looks like my pan will only be about 3/4" so I want to in account for any long term settling

So I think I may have screwed myself but hopefully not too bad. I am using a engine from a 84 300d not sure the model its turbo but when I was pulling the engine it was about 2a.m. when I got it out and I wasn't thinking and just pulled the flywheel to see if my adapter plate fit but I didn't make any marks or anything so now a 180* flywheel balance is out of the question. Will a static balance get me by? I'm using a ax15 transmission
