Default 6.2 w/ Turbo 400

Long story short, I have a 67 International I want to put a diesel in. Came across a running 6.2 military motor for 200$, buddy said I should be able to put a turbo 400 transmission behind it no problem. With that said... What are the concerns I'm going to have with making the two mate properly. It's going to be a 2wd truck and I've got a few decent condition trannys lined up. I know I'll need a custom driveshaft but will the tranny just slide right up to the 6.2 or do I need some additional parts?

The 6.2 came with a turbo 400 behind it, stock. You need the 6.2 flexplate and a standard chevrolet bolt pattern th400. The torque converter is a subject much like "which oil is best..." The original 6.2 torque converter used 6 bolts bolting it to the flexplate much like 454's in large trucks and motorhomes had. Some people will say they had a different stall speed, maybe they did, maybe they didn't. I can tell you from experience that a torque converter for a gas engine will bolt up and run the truck just fine. I swapped a 6.2 into my '72 Chevy C20 a year and a half ago and left the converter in the trans that was in it with the 350 gasser. In fact I have my 6.2 bolted to... Gasp! A turbo 350!! I use it basically like a half ton, no heavy towing or anything (I have a cummins for that) but for a year and a half I've had a clean old classic to drive that gets 17-20 mpg.

Well then your the best person to talk to! What do you mean by "standard Chevrolet 6 bolt"? Also, how much would you anticipate a 6.2 flex plate being cost? Also what about a torque converter? This might be a dumb question but can't I come right off the back of my transmission as long as I get a 2wd version?

I was referring to the bellhousing bolt pattern. Turbo 400's are available in a Jeep specific bolt pattern as well as the BOP pattern, which is Buick Olds Pontiac. You want a standard chevy one.
The flexplate might cost you a $100 or so at your local NAPA or whatever.
The 6 bolts has to do with the torque converter to flexplate bolt up. Standard chevy passenger car and light truck stuff uses 3 bolts and bigger chevy stuff used 6. Either one will work, but obviously more is better, especially if you are hauling heavier loads. The torque converter doesn't know or care if it's 2wd or 4wd.

That'll work. Even has the torque converter with the 6 bolts instead of 3. Win, win! For $300 it better be a good trans and not need rebuilt, though. That's all the money.

Yep, I'd see if the transmission guy has the driveline out of the van and have it shortened. For $300 he should be able to throw it in... With that bolt on yoke you will need a slip joint in the driveline.

Obviously you have some mounts to fabricate, throttle and shifter linkage to sort out. I figure you knew that much already. On the subject of motor mounts, anything that bolts to a big or small block chevy will bolt to the 6.2...

Okay, I'll have to see what he has left over. Ugh so much to consider…I'm trying to keep the motor/trans/driveshaft under 1k. So far so good if I can get that for $200, then $300 for the transmission. A few hundred in misc parts, welding, and fabrication and we should be good to run/drive! I'd love to see this bad boy soot and do a burn out, the trucks extremely light so the burnout should be possible.
