Honestly the Combination of the Alternator and the Vacuum pump in the end may not be as good as your set up. Plus you have yours set up well.

You can think of it this way if your Alternator goes out you are SOL for both the Alternator and the Vacuum Pump or either or.

I think there is something to be said about individual components doing separate jobs. The main reason I went this rout is simplicity.

Plus at the cost of these units who knows how long they will hold up.

I've had mine for a year and a half approx 10,000 miles. Works good sofar I went this route because the yanmar had no way to add more accessorys. That's why I never had powerstreering

A 4X4 Ranger with the tires you run you will not need to join a Gym.

I am thinking about trying to find a Manual Steering box for my Mazda. But it seems as if they are a rare item.

I retrofit manual steering on my Mercedes XJ. I got a used box off ebay for cheap, and it is worn out. O'reily can special order the box as well, I just had to give them the year model I wanted.[ it was pretty pricy though Looks like O'reily has your box as well, if you can handle the price. Wow the mazda box makes the Jeep box look cheap.
If you can handle the manual steering, in my opinion it saves in several areas of the build. And this can offset/justify the cost of the box. Now you are making me think about doing another manual steered jeep. My PS pump mount has been causing some trouble.
Is that weight on your Mazda actual weight or published in a book weight???

Book Weight. Or more like 3150LBS with me in it.

And yep those manual steering boxes are pricey. But I will take a look see at O'Reily. I was just thinking manual so I could have one less thing to worry about it. And the factory power steering has much to be desired. With this small of a Truck I do not feel I would miss power steering much at all. It is not like I am throwing a Blown Big Block Chevy in there.

I am not sure exactly why I am going with PS on this jeep. It has been a pain in the *** to make the mount, and it is still not to my liking. I will admit that I notice the difference, not having the PS.
I am quickly talking myself into another manual steered jeep.
benefits of manual steering
1. ease of build to not have to fab a mount
2. durability, and simplicity, no worries with hydraulic hoses, reservoir, or mount problems and belts
3. Save horsepower which might be pretty significant on the little Kubota
4. No one else will want to drive it with out PS
5. I get a brand new steering box to tighten up the front end.

befifits of PS
1. power steering
2. low cost
3. re-sale value?

I probably still need the extra pulley on mine for the AC, I don't think I can drive the AC from the alternator,

My '01 jeep is 3500 with me onboard, I got to weigh it on a probably 75 year old drive on triple beam feed scale, I was shocked to see the guy sliding the weights around, and then just tell me the weight through the window.
