Kubota V2203DI rebuild. Has anyone done this?

Default Kubota V2203DI rebuild. Has anyone done this?

Just wondering if anyone has torn down one of these Kubota V2203DI Engines and done a rebuild? And if so how was the cost in doing so?

Hey Jester do you need a rebuild on your runner already? Or are you working on the second engine? I see rebuild kits on ebay for 6-900$ depends on if you get sleeves or not.
At the price we are paying for the engines I am not sure a rebuild is worth it.
For me I would want to work out all the bugs of the conversion first, and if it is really an excellent complete vehicle, that I would want to drive for a long long time, then and only then would I consider a rebuild on an engine.
Just a guess but a shop would probably charge $1k to $2k for the labor

But no I have not blown anything up YET . I will probably use one the turbo chargers that are recommended here turbo is a kkk k03 from a 1999 vw passat 1.8t gas 4cyl and try and keep my HP Hungry friend away from it . For some odd reason he thinks since it is a turbo and we can make a better intake then we can push 30+ LBS of Turbo pressure in the little engine and make better than 300 HP .

So every time he mentions it I say no I will be happy with 20 LBS or so boost and about 100HP and 160 LBS of TQ as to what has been mentioned on this forum for the above given boost pressures.

From what I have read on this forum if you start pushing boost pressures too high on the Kubota then you can crack or lift the head.

I am not worried about the labor only parts and machine work that might be needed. As I can tear the engine down and re-assemble.

I was just thinking about maybe having a fresh short block just in case of a major disaster .

I've built a bunch of Kubota's over the years, they're not bad to build. I have not used the after market parts yet, they have just begun to produce those kit so I don't know about the quality. Kubota parts are very high, but like everything else you get what you pay for, build it right and it will last a long time. Note, Kubota does not use wet sleeves, they must be bored, last time I built one they only offered one over-sized piston, V2203 kits run about $1200.00.......

From what little information I have found it stated that they should not be bored more than .020 over?

I wish they had removable sleeves but they do not so I guess it if it was too far out of spec it would have to be bored over and a sleeve installed.

I have never ran into one that had to be sleeved, they just don't wear that bad. I'm sure you could find one but I never have. They are well build tough engines! Even the way they have their crankshafts configured is an art. Most engine have main caps that hold the crankshafts in place, on a Kubota you attach the main to the crankshaft and then it slot loads through the rear of the block. You've always heard "4 bolt main" well Kubota engines are like having a that X100.

I think I looked at a thread where you Pulled a Kubota V2203 down to inspect the inside of the engine?

I would have to do it myself as it looks like you remove the crankshaft as one would a cam shaft from a Chevy?

Has someone had this happen? I've been running mine as my daily driver for almost a year, and I see 28-30lbs almost every time I drive it now. The only issue I've ever had from too much boost was blowing boots.

I just remember reading it on one of the forums. Something about the Kubota that comes with a Turbo as standard equipment has a thicker head. I have no idea though. But to be honest it made no sense to me as to have two separate design heads on the same engine. That is from a manufacturing stand point.

And how how do you keep your EGT low enough when running so much Boost? As the most I have seen people on this forum run is right around the 20 PSI range for a very limited amount of time due to the EGT.

All this Diesel stuff is New to me. Even FTE told me to forget everything I know about Gas engines and HP as it will not equate to a Diesel Engine.
