79 f150 cummins swap, where to start
hey, new here, I have a 79 f150 4x4, I want to do cummins swap, im going to build up the 5.9lL myself, the transmission and transfer case i have questions about, which would be the best way to go. the purpose for the truck would need to be reliable enough for daily driver, if needed, and to haul anything i need to when time comes, also, transmission will need to handle higher than stock horsepower and torque. all thoughts will be considered, thanx

what do you want auto or manual? theres a couple sites that make adaptor plates for autos and manuals so you can use a ford transmission or you can use a dodge trans like an nv or a getrag. IDK too much about autos cause i didnt use mine but i run an np241 T case off a dodge 2500. Needs to be a certain model though because there are light duty and heavy duty models as well as units with 2 different input shafts depending if you go with automatic or manual.

and if u want higher than stock hp pretty much stay away from the getrag transmission.

It's manual trans now, that's what I normally drive, but if I keep it manual, would like to put 6spd, but I was thinking of automatics transmission, something that can handle higher than stock hp. Right now its lifted 8" but going to bring back down a little. All in all, just need it to be reliable. I'm not going to have my foot in it all the time, but if I do, I want a reaction
