Hey Everybody,

I replaced the starter on my Ford n Benz project today. I was just cranking it over for the first time, with the hood still open when my Dad walks up and asked where the air was leaking from while it was cranking? I had stopped cranking as he walked up. I did not know what the source of the sound is, but have been hearing that noise ever since I installed this newer head, although it is much quieter with the hood closed.

After a long search I finally located a good head. Took it to the machine shop where they hot tanked it, replaced the valve guides, ground the valves and seats, and installed the new valve stem seals.

I installed the head with new gaskets, head bolts, etc.

Once the engine starts the noise is gone, but when cranking before starting, it is very noticeable, and seems to be coming from one cylinder, although I can't tell where it is coming from exactly.

I adjusted the valves myself, and checked them a second time to make sure I did not miss anything.

My Dad and I took turns cranking it over trying to hear where it was coming from before it would start and go away. We are stumped.

Anybody else familiar with this issue?
