Default 1996 Ford F150 Cummins Swap Question

People who have done a swap in this body style with the F150, did you have to box the frame for a 6BT, or will the frame be okay? I won't be mudding or anything like that. I may have to pull a trailer every once and a while... but it will mainly be a daily driver on the street. So is the frame good how it is? or box it?

Also did you need a body lift to fit the engine in? Any other mods to get it to fit, like fire wall mods? Thanks!! Project should start at the end of this month if I can find a donor dodge!!!!

body lift isnt needed but gives more room, on mine i braced that hole where the oil filter would be on a 5.0, on the left side of the engine cross member, I built my own engine mount brakets that sit on the top of the cross member that used existing holes, so thats why i braced that. the f150 frame will hold up fine. if you plan to use the dodge fan you may have to modify the firewall, i used electric fans and i have my engine farther forward that most.

Default Couple Gotchas To Watch

Above post is correct.

I used FordCummins.com (I think) motor mounts. I don't have a bad thing to say about 'em: they positioned the engine with OEM mechanical fan clearance (cool), but stuffed the engine with #6 back into the firewall recess.

Yeah, it fits without a body lift but the #6 valve cover cannot be completely removed, preventing valve lash adjustment, gasket replacement, and most importantly, valve cover polishing. They're aluminum, don't ya know, and therefore have to be polished.

Way more important than PM, of course.
