Default AC quit working

2006 Dodge 3500 5.9

I realize this is a long post but truck is new to me and it seems i'm going to be here alot . Thnxs to all for what is is you do for people like me .

About 1 month ago i put a used headache rack with lights . installed it myself and hooked it up . Lost the Rear right tail light and turn on trailer . Installed trailer light power converter and rewired headache rack , to make sure of no shorts . This fixed my problem , so i believe

I use this truck to work out of and everything else { my only ride } I pull a 6 x 12 tandem trailer loaded up with tools all over the US .

Yesterday i came home from work [ ac blazin ] backed into my yard and hooked up to my trailer , within 5 minutes my AC was blowing hot air . Later that night after i unhooked the trailer and checked all i knew to , I realized the running lights no longer worked on my headache rack so i un plugged it .

I read alot of online forums and seen a . pay a tech 40 bucks for answer , One of his suggestions was to unhook batteries to reset TIPM , I did this before checking for Codes . No codes come up . AC not working

What you'll need to do is unplug the compressor, start the truck and turn the a/c on and use a test light to check for power and ground at the compressor clutch connector. If you do have power and ground but it won't engage then the clutch coil has failed, which is the most common cause of this on these trucks.

Did you try this? ^

If you don't have power and ground try disconnecting the batteries for a few minutes. The compressor is controlled by the TIPM, the module/fuse box under the hood. It can set fault codes and disable circuits when it sees a problem. Disconnecting the batteries will clear the codes and may restore operation.

.. might have to replace the tipm and the a/c compressor, but it works fine when the trailer is not plugged in? Its gotta be wiring? blown a fuse or something..... check on wiring maybe a short..something simple i hope.!

Thnxs for the tip , i did disconnect batteries to reset the tipm . Which is what i was able to do the easiest but after checking the power at the compressor it showed to have power . Although the truck is 6 years old it only has 34k miles . Bummer of a deal . Thnxs for the input

w/c,, youll probably have to buy the compessor as well, as they dont sell an after market kit with this.....talk to your local parts dealer first and see if you can.
