Default ford 6.0 problems

i have two 6.0 fords right now both 2003s, one will not run, i checked the high pressure oil system for leaks and its all good, i changed the ficm out with a good one and it has no affect, scanned it today and the only codes i can get are all 8 injectors have a low circuit code, as far as i can tell its building about 1400psi of oil pressure, i have a sulas ultra scanner but im not too familiar with it, the guy took the truck to the dudes, ran fine got home parked it and now wont run, maybe a bad ipr but i dont know how to check with the scanner

2nd truck is pooring out whiteish smoke, all injectors buzz test fine, on contribution test cylinder #1 pulls a code and on the live data its also in the neg. im thinking bad injector but i want a second opinion, truck as no other codes

any help would be much appreciated, im under the gun with these trucks

first truck, if you can see it build that kind of presure then i think IPR should be fine, the clue is that all 8 injectors are showing low at same time, probably a bad FICm, swap the one out of the other truck to see if it fixes the problem, they are interchangeable through the years so no issue. might not hurt to remove IPR and make sure screen if not clogged or broken, if so replace screen.
Second truck, does smoke smell like fuel or sweet like coolant, and does it smoke when cold/hot/ or both

OOPS, just reread where you allready tried another FICM. pull the fuel filter out and turn key on to see if you are getting fuel, if you have HPO and FICM is known to be good then the only thing keeping it from running is fuel

i checked the fuel before i started on the first one but i will double check it again, second truck smokes all the time hot or cold, to me it smells like fuel, burns your eyes and nose and stuff

i wish i was more familiar with my scanner, the old one said icp psi ...... this one i think just says icp (idi) ....... something like that

If you post this in the 6.0 section you will get alot more help, some guys don't look at the whole site and there is alot of knowlege on here. I think you want to look for ICP derired vs ICP actual, they should be close also check IPR% or duty cycle, if you get those and repost to the 6.0 I'm sure we can get it figured out. Can you run a contribution test? might help narrow down the cylinder with problem, smoking all the time is probably going to be a bad injector but lets try to narrow it down after we see some of the readings.

Check the replacement FICM, I doubt all 8 injectors are bad and if your getting low voltage for all of them its probably the FICM.

thats what I was thinking, I would take the one off the running truck and try it. It's not a brand new one your trying is it, they have to be programmed before use. just an FYI

no i swapped the ficms staight across, i got the no start one figured out, i found where the icp pressure was in my scanner and it wasnt getting over 200psi, went to ford and bought a new ipr, when i pulled the old one out the screen was sucked into the ipr and had a cut thru the middle of it, put it all back together and started right up, no more codes and runs like it did before

the one with the smoking/bad injector problem, i swapped the egr valve out of the no run truck into it and it help out a bit with power but smoke stayed the same, i got a buddy to help with my new scanner and we found that the right bank (1,3,5,7) are all running in the neg, #1 was the worst, i drove it about 40miles and now #8 is the worst and it has a bad miss to it and barely runs, i think the best option might replace all 8, or at least the right side, i will mess with it more tommrrow or monday, this trucks seems like it lacks tlc, the egr valve was plugged up pretty good with soot and crap, idk how much the oil has been changed, front end has some hard miles on it, etc

thanks for helping me out on this guys, i will keep you posted about that truck

Did you test the voltage on the FICM using a multimeter, it has to be able to read 50v dc, there is a sticky on how to test it, it is probably a 7 pin being an 03, anything below 46v is not too good. Make sure you test in all three positions, key on/cranking/running. there is a sticky on top of 6.0 section on how to do this test, generally when you have a bank of injectors go out it is the FICM or on rare occasions it is because a injector came loose and combustion pressure is entering the fuel rail which is internal to the head, I have even had injectors come apart and was able to put them back together and this time using locktite, if you pull the injectors check the tiny bolt and nut near the top of them to make sure they are tight. I would pull all the injectors to see if any of the orings have gotten damaged, if so there is your problem. all 8 oring kits should only cost around $40. there are places that can test the injectors too, it can get exspensive to replace all the injectors, at $230 a piece, it might be worth the testing.

ya my scanner tells me how many volts the ficm has, it was about 48-48.5volts, the guy wants me to do a head stud job as well now, so i will inspect them all when i have the motor out, i have a buddy with a few used injectors i can play with to see if that clears up the problem before i have to buy any new injectors
