Default 07 6.0 235k miles repairs gone wrong

OK guys kind of a long story I have an 07 F250 I bought new and mainly drive with only a moderate to light load around the DFW area it has 235+k miles at about 100k I had a little trouble with egr otherwise no wrenches touched engine except for oil changes and such but I have been planning to do some mods when paid off not so much for performance as for longivity so when I started experianceing longer than normal crank times I decided it was time then one day it refused to start hot for almost an hour then when it started it ran great at this point I made an appointment and in the shop it went they quoted 3025$ to replace hop ,oil cooler delete the egr and egr cooler and install a tuner it was in the shop for 5 weeks the mechanic changed the hpop three times once it blew the plug out of it .finally he declared the truck finished and the bill was 3578$ he said debris in the IP caused all the trouble
When I got the truck back the first thing I noticed was it took longer than it should to start I felt then I was in for.a bad time but on the test drive very it.ran like.a.race.truck but rattled more than I have.ever heard it I drove it 20 miles and the rattleing was profound the whole way after shutting truck off it would not restart for a couple hours but started fine later
The next morning after agonizing for sure me time I decided to drive truck to work and I almost made it it took a half taken to go 80 miles by my rough estimate that is 4mpg and lost all power then died
I had it towed to a differant shop and received the call last night that the ipr was plugged and I believe it was but don't believe this is the only trouble so I asked the mechanic to change dummy plugs and to troubleshoot the long crank/no start
What else should I do this is eating my credit.card up

first thing you should do is change mechanics.

ive never heard of someone charging $3500 to change a hpop... especially if they cant do it right.

the no start when hot problem sounds like a hpop problem, so he's probably correct about that.

and why would the mechanic tell you to install a programmer on it..? that isnt the smartest thing to do when you are ALREADY in the shop with problems..?

i would take it to someone that knew what they were doing and make sure he deleted the egr system correctly, make sure he changed the oil cooler correctly, and actually gave you a new hpop. sounds like he didnt do anything from what your explaining. and 5 weeks?! i could do that in 2 days in my backyard with no powertools

just my .02

Default well i did take that advise

P It is in a new shop now and this mechanic has diagnosed the IPR screen plugged causeing my trouble and claimed contamination likely entered engine when oil cooler was changed . Some of this is my fault because I wanted this work done be cause of my research indi rated this would likely prevent more serious trouble .I digress
I asked the new mechanic to please test the hpop circuit for leaks since it has not had valve covers off and I have read a lot of posts about the dummy plugs leaking so from all I have read this is what I assumed
#1 I likely had a leak in the hpop somewhere because my truck cranks longer than normal when cold and won't start when hot
#2 I should have fixed this first and then persued the egr delete and other stuff on a good running engine
#3 and this is where I get sketchy now the ipr is plugging up with ???? And this can elevate my hpop pressurecauseing it to get lousey mileage (i estimate 4 mpg)and have a loud fuel crack

OK guys I guess the second mechanic should a been the first mechanic I picke up the truck last night and it is back to its old bad *** self thanks for your input LTK

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

this truck is fixed

the trouble i had was two fold

#1 the IPR was plugged with debris and i guess i havent read enough about this but it really had a profound effect on the operation of the engine we should have a sticky to describe just what this causes

#2 i had a problem when i put this truck in the shop i assumed the mechanic would know to fix this was the dummy plug o-rings

for the record i struck a bargain with the first shop that worked on the truck and they will reimburse me the wrecker bill and the IPR repair and i will pick up the bill for the dummy plug repair

on the plus side i may have met the best 6.0 liter /ford diesel guy in the DFW area anyone need a number pm me

thanks again for being here i wish i had come here before i put the truck in the shop
