99 dodge broke down
I jumped on the throttle to beat a yellow light and the waste gate made a loud noise, then the truck acted like the transmission was slipping severley and I drove about 1/2 mile at 35 mph and the enginewould jump between 2500 rpm and 3000 rpm while slowly slowing down. I was pulling over and the engine lost all power . It turns over but wont start. no fluids are leaking.
any ideas where to start?

update: the engine was not being turned over by the starter...starter engaing the gears on the flexplate and spinning it but not the engine. pulled the flywheel inspection cover and it has a lot of dust/meatal shavings. this is an automatic with a suncoast tranny that was put in about a year ago....what do i need to replace?

that is exactly what happened.... and the parts of dust and metal are alluminum from where the flex plat chewed into the metal. it tore some chunks out of the soft metal. any issue with running it like this? looks like a ton of work to replace that big chunk of metal
should I get the suncoast hd replacement or the BD?

I'd get the suncoast one if it was me. What big chunk of metal are you talking about? The bellhousing?

suncoast it is
the metal is on the engine side of the flexplate. If you were sitting there taking off the flexplate, the metal just outside where the flexplate bolts on has damage. It appears to be alluminum and once a new flexplate is bolted on there wont be any contact between the flexplate and engine. This must have been what I smelled burning.
