Default 6.5 diesel owner needs help! Not PMD

Hi guys, first post. My name is James and I live in Jacksonville, Florida.

I own a 1995 Silverado with the 6.5 turbo diesel. It is a long bed with extended cab. Truck has 170,xxx miles and has been quite reliable. I've had it for a few years, it was my dads before it was mine and he got it in 1999.

Known problems: the Brake Booster "Hydroboost" is leaking along with the Master cylinder (so I'm leaking both power steering and brake fluid). Other than that, no real mechanical issues..... Until now!

This truck is my daily driver. The problem started last Thursday. I go out very early in the morning and start my truck as I do every day. Truck started no problem, like usual. I allowed the truck to warm up for a few minutes ( approximately 2-3 minutes ). Everything seemed normal, I got about two block from my house, the truck loses acceleration and then dies. I make it to a side road and try to restart. Truck spins beautifully, full battery power but doesn't even attempt to fire. So, I pop the hood and give it the once over. Seen nothing out of the ordinary. I have several PMD's in my truck (4 in total, been through the whole PMD thing) and switched a good one out with the one that was plugged in, no difference. Trying to keep the story short. About 10 minutes pass, all the while I've been trying to get it running. FINALLY, it tries to fire while I'm starting it. I'm beating the gas pedal to death and it finally starts, but is running terrible! I'm having to keep it running by keeping the pedal depressed and keeping the RPM's up. It is spitting and popping and running extremely rough. So I keep it running and start heading back home, I've had to keep it running (two footing both gas and brake ) but, when I reach my home everything goes back to normal. Idles perfect, ran great after that.

So, I went to work, got off, truck started fine ( short day of 6.75 hours ) and drove home with no issues. The next morning (Friday) THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED! 100% the same! Started it, left, made it two-three blocks, dies, tried for 10 minutes, finally fires, had to keep it running for about a mile, then ran perfect with no problems. Long day at work on Friday (14 hours) repeated the same thing and after sitting for 14 hours, it did the same thing that it did the previous mornings. No work today but went out and tried, same exact thing.

Sorry for such a long story, just trying to give the best info so you guys know what I'm working with. I've been running errands all day in the truck with no problems (besides the morning issue) turned off and restarted several times today with no trouble. So, I'm assuming it is something to do with being cold or not being ran for long hours. It's 85 degrees here today, so weather isn't a factor.

My only attempt to fix so far was switch the fuel filter. I opened it up and the filter was extremely dirty. So it kind of does seem like a fuel issue to me, but not sure. Since the truck is still warm, it starts fine. So no way to tell if the filter switch solved the issue.

Any suggestions you guys have would be greatly appreciated! But, hopefully the filter solves the problem!

On a side note; I am getting ready to sell the old girl, perhaps she overheard my conversation and is now rebelling

Thanks in advance!

Ok, so after switching the fuel filter out yesterday and letting it cool down over night; I went out and started it this morning. No Problems! It ran like a champ and warmed right up. So the fuel filter was the trouble. No problems*today*and was acting like it used to.*

But, sadly, I think it still might be time for the Ol' Gal to move on to the next owner.... Appreciate the help fellas! Even though this was my first post, I've been creeping the forum for quite some time.

If anyone may be interested in a great 2500, just let me know. Located in Jacksonville,FL.
