Default Ford idi cranking and not starting

I have a 1991 ford 7.3 idi with a banks sidewinder turbo, I recently replaced the starter and all connections but now the starter just cranks it and the batteries drain extremely fast. My truck used to crank and crank and it would start, but now it can't crank and crank without killing the batteries which has made it impossible to get started. I used a battery charger to get it up to the correct voltage and amperage but it still kills them within 8 seconds and just won't start. A friend came over with a 2001 duramax and heavy duty cables but that still did not let it crank like it should even though it was hooked up. It puffs out the white smoke when it's cranking which shows it's getting fuel and it still won't start! What do I do?

Uh oh! White smoke isnt a good thing. I am not sure about it but that can also mean that your rings could be damaged.
