blown seal at bottom of steering box
drive a 2001 dodge cummins 24v
was heading out to work about a 200km drive, i had just left gas station, i had checked all fluids and everything was ok....drive about 20km power steering pump is winding and no steering and lilttle breaks, look under truck to see that the seal at the bottom of the gear box let go, so turned her around and came home, that box was replaced less then a year ago.. so ill be changing it tomo morning but since the system ran dry is there anything special i should do, should i check the pump also since i drove about 15-20 with no fluid and also hardly had any stopping power

might have hurt the pump but no way to tell until you get it back full of fluid and try it. you didnt have good brakes because its a hydraboost brake system that uses powersteering pressure instead of vacume to boost the brakes. as your refilling it with fluid just leave the cap off and work the wheel lock to lock to get the air out.
