Default 01 cummins lift pump issues

first off, I have been searching google, forums, etc for anything that's remotely similar to my problem.

01 24v

all stock other then exhaust.

oem, block mounted LP started loosing pressure. I goto my local parts store, buy a new one. Installed with no issues, blip the key to prime/bleed off air. Pump runs for the normal 20 seconds but only made pressure for about 10 sec, then nothing. Okay, bad pump. Cruise back down and swap out pumps. Install new pump, primes has pressure, starts. Drive once. round trip of about 2 miles, get home and it ***** out again. Okay so I go back to the store and they upgrade me to a carter pump. Put that in and I see a huge difference. Next day, I drive about 5 miles and it ***** out again!

yes, I know I should just buy a fass and get it over with but times are tough and its not possible for a few weeks.

anyone else have this problem or know what could be causing this? am I just getting **** pumps? I'm at a serious loss right now and overly puzzled.

thoughts?

May have some trash in the lines or tank that is causing the pump to crap out on you or you could just have very bad luck with stock pumps. Like you said above you need to get an AD or Fass. Have you check and/or changed your fuel filter?

Don't run ATF. New ATF has friction modifiers in it, and that's really not good for the VP44. It's possible that the ones you replaced could have been bad too right from the start.

Make a temporary suction line from lift pump to a clean bucket with some fuel in it. This will eliminate the truck, so it will give you a direction to go. GOOD LUCK

also check the voltage at the lift pump i have seen a few cases where the lp circuit in the ecm go's bad and dosnt supply 12v to the lift pump and requires having the ecm replaced

Also load the 12v with a light. A dvm will read 12 volts with one strand of wire left

If voltage were an issue wouldn't it not turn the pump on?
Ill check in the morning either way
