Default Cant get in gear

I have a 3500 dually 98.5 with a 5spd. i was driving and came to a stop when to take off and i could not get it back in gear. it took alot of force to get it to 2nd gear. once i got it home and parked it the next day it wont go into gear at all. I know this sounds crazy but it sounds to me that the clutch or something has gone out completely. any one know how long this takes to replace ill be doing this myself with a fellow friend. also the tranny looks like it has been worked on previously as i just bout this truck 3 months ago. right where the drive shaft meets the tranny it looks like a new plastic box and up on top of the tranny where the stick shift is also a new plastic looking box is it suppose to be grey if its stock? Whats a good clutch for these if theres no modifications done to the engine other than a 4 inch strait back exhaust with no muffler or cat and a cold air by afe? Any ideas on the tranny would be great

thanks kevin

if the trans has been out they might not have tightend the shift tower bolts. Id pull the tower out and make sure the forks are aligned, it might be trying to go in two gears at once.

Does it grind gears? Does the shifter move as far as usual?

they shifter might not have fully disengaged the gear you were in and it wont go into any other gear. Ive seen it before due to a worn out tower.

If the clutch was bad you wouldn't be able to move the truck in gear. It would rev like in neutral and not move much. If it wont shift between gears you maybe looking at a bad Hydraulic pedal system, master cylinder or slave cylinder maybe low hydraulic fluid? Not sure what system is on that truck but I don't think there using the old mechanical system.

does it complain about going into all the gears? or just 2nd?... How does the clutch pedal feel? if it doesn't like going into any gear, I'd look at the clutch master/slave cylinder before taking the tranny out
