Default 1984 6.9l fuel problems

hey guys,

I bought this truck yesterday and it ran fine on the way home.
I went this morning to get a state inspection sticker and it dies on me about 5 miles down the road. I had it towed home and took the fuel line from the lift pump to the fuel filter housing off at the fuel filter housing. turned the engine over and no fuel. PO says he had just filled the primary tank and the gauge shows full. I'm intending to run a hose from the lift pump to a jug of diesel to check the pump but now I have another problem.

the fuel line where it connects to the filter housing has a rubber cone washer that's disintegrated. whats that called and where do I get a replacement?
that fuel line looks like it has a heater incorporated into it? can I just run rubber hose from the pump to the housing? I guess I'd have to replace the 90 degree fitting that the old line connected to?

many thanks in advance.

Paul
