The diamond plate on my bed rails and tailgate panel has clearcoat on it. This wouldnt be a problem but it has a haze in it and it doesnt shine at all. My toolbox does not have clearcoat, and after using the acid wash and some buffing it shines like new. Is there any chemical out there to strip off the clearcoat or am I stuck buying new pieces? The clearcoat is trying to peel off in places so it looks like garbage and I would rather just have it all shiny. -
You will probably have to use a chemical stripper and take the clearcoat off. Then you will have to polish it with aluminum polish and follow that with a couple of coats of good paste wax. JMO. -
a high pressure washer does pretty good on them, if you really want it off rub some acid on em then pressure wash, go to a semi truck wash shop and they will sell you some acid thst they use for aluminum tank trucks -
Any recomendations for a chemical stripper? Seems like that will be the easiest route to go. I have a buffer so polishing them out is not a big deal. The toolbox looks so nice I want everything to look good now!! -

I just picked up some today to do my wheels. The good stuff is for aircraft...MarHyde Tal Strip II:
I was gonna get the mar-hyde stuff, but oreilly didnt have it in stock this morning. Wound up getting some stuff called peeler, and it took most of the clearcoat off in 2 applications. Still have a few spots here and there that I ran out of stuff on but I figured I will get them next spring right before I acid wash all the diamond plate again. Didnt get any pics, but thanks for the suggestion, it worked great!! -
