Acetone can be used if you chase it with a wet rag. If left on the paint and not washed off quickly, it will make the paint soft, and damage it. Same goes for thinner, and mineral spirits.
For removing decals, I've had good luck with using either a heat gun or hairdryer to warm them up and soften the adhesive, then once you get it peeled off, use WD-40 on a soft cloth to get the residual adhesive off. Once all that's done, it's a good idea to apply a light polish and wax where the decals were, and if need be wash and wax the whole truck. -

I had a company truck that was relabeled 3 times in 2 years due to company buy outs and I had to take off the old decals each time and this is by far the best method I have used. The hair dryer works great at getting them loosened up and they peel right off. -

Find one of these.

Item Detail

Load it into a cordless drill and go to it. No chemicals, no scraping, no paint or clearcoat damage. Just wipe the area with a wax when done. -

GOO GONE & WD40 is what I've used in the past, I know WD40 will not harm the paint. -

I've used WD-40 too, followed by a light polish and wax. -

I've always used a heat gun when removing decals and never had a problem. If you heat it up just right, then start peeling the decal off the glue will come right off with the stickers or decals.I used to rermove decals sometimes on 53' trailers at my last job. -
