Default Hi, I Am New To This Forum. Diesel Tuning

Hi,
I am English and running my own garage and tuner shop in France.
I specialise in old cars and my present one is a Citroen CX25 GTi Turbo2 petrol. Using JE pistons, total seal rings etc this engine (petrol) produces 400hp + a 100hp shot of nitrous.

I also have 3 diesel models, 2500cc 4 cyl. One is a turbo.
As these cars are from 1980 - 87 there are no electronic control boxes.
But I am growing more and more interested in tuning one of these engines for power.
I know what to do for petrol engines, but as diesel is new to me (for tuning) I hope somebody can help with what is the norm. I.E. Head work, pistons, crank, flywheel, cam etc.

Any help or links would be appreciated.

John

John,

Unfortunately, North America doesn't have the same reliance on the oil burner like the rest of the world does so we are really in the dark when it comes to small blocks - esp. older ones. That said, when I ran a tuning company we did engine swaps of VW / Audi TDI products and added boxes, injectors and exhaust to the TDI line up. These cars run great modified but watch out for the following:

1. They don't like boost more than 21 psi - if you just blow the head gasket you will consider yourself lucky. Doing more and you will bend rods and split the block.
2. Heat in these small engines is a real problem - run a product called evans coolant if you are racing the car. It is a waterless coolant but is very $$.
3. Newer models and the EGR's - I hate these things. Run the cars at 3500 + RPM to keep that thing from plugging up and you will be ok. Low RPM and you are asking for BIG problems with economy, power and tear down times to clean it out.

Other than that you probably know more about them than I do.

Diesel Tuning makes a great box as does Kerma and so forth.
