Welcome to the forum, agreed 2500HeavyDuty does know a thing or two about the dirtymax's. I would start off with intake, exhaust, gauges, and a programmer. Lots of choices out there but you just have to do alot of research and find out what best suits your needs -

welcome 2500hevyduty is the man! help me out alot with my tune. I would say start off with exhaust, intake, tune and lift pump (i have a single KD lift pump for sale if ur interested) if u get radical on the tune u will be looking at a new trans though, 5 speeds can only handle so much -

Welcome To diesel bombers Pal.

man 170k miles, thats alot on the motor first off. One thing i would have checked out is if the cp3 can still pump out 160Mpa (23kpsi) at idle. If it still can you pump is in great conditon. has the truck ever had an injector problem? it still has a few months left in its warrenty.

The best and probably the most cost effective way to unmatchable make power with a tuner is EFI live, it is the best scan/tune tool hands down for the duramax or any GM vehicle .... luke But there are other people who are just fine with just a super chips or hypertech, or something simmilar.

A cheap modification that can be done for more air is to cut up the intake box, and as far as intakes go theres are only a few that actualy perform better than a stock modded box.

holding the extra power with a 170k old transmission will be tough. if its been babied you could get away with 70hp over stock for a daily driven tune but thats as far as u want to go with a canned tuning box or programmer.

hope that helps. -
