Default Howdy! Diesel noob looking to learn here.

Hey everyone!

I found this site googling for info on the 2010 6.9L Duramax when I found the thread started by "redneckbuckeye" titled "2010 Duramax 6.9 ". I tend to do tons of research before I buy anything and am currently waiting for the 2010 GMC 2500HD.

About me: Currently driving a 1500 Yukon, It's kind of hard to put motorcycles in the back and tow a trailer full of motorcycles. I also have this expensivily annoying habit of never settling for second rate, bittersweet. Time to move to a diesel pickup! I coach and race street bikes, that's what I'm towing around. Though I can rip motorcycles apart and race 'em make 'em and brake 'em, I'm afraid I know little about working on diesels, though I'll learn quickly. My goal would be to get my truck and then do as much as I can to modify the mechanical for performance/increased MPG, without voiding warrenty in the long run (I kbnow, I know, the everlasting battle). Any advice about this or directions to threads about it would be great!

If anyone knows of any good threads regarding GMC Diesels, 2010 diesels, (I know there will be tones of threads on mods etc.), or general advice / need-to-knows about diesels, I would greatly appreciate it!

I heard from some people that Diesels made as of the 1st of 2010 will need to be smoged.
True/False/Alterations?

I heard that GMC might be making the 2010 Sierra 2500HD's with out the strict smog restrictions and then doing an early release of the 2011 1st of the year making them compliant with the new smog regulations.
True/False/Alterations?

Thanks everyone! -

Well I think the smog deal will be state by state if it happens. The good news is bieng a computer controlled truck it is as simple as turning the tune back to stock to go get smogged (as long as teh rest of your emmisions stuff is in place). -
