Default should I trade?

I have a 1999 tahoe, a lot of things done to it, but I recently came across a 1996 Dodge 2500. It is an automatic, and he has beefed up the tranny, added bigger injectors, hasn't done anything to the pump, and he hasn't done anything to the KDP. I really want to trade but the truck has 362k miles. Any advice would help thanks. -

You'll probably get a better response to your question if you post it in a more appropriate forum, either in the Chevy section, or the general diesel section I would think. Good luck either way. -

welcome to db. i don't know if i would trade for that truck, i bet you could find something with a little less miles. do you know if they were just driving miles, or towing, or horse play, those are all things to consider. but anyhow, hope you do get a cummins, highly recomended -

welcome to the db family like what wass said before might have better luck posting this in the general diesel section but depending on what condition the truck is and how clean it is and yours etc might be worth it -

welcome.

Find out EXACTLY what he did to the truck. HE beefed up the tranny? what did he put in it? Who did the work? WHat company's parts went in it? When was it upgraded? Also how big are the injectors? What brand?

A truck with that many miles is bound to have problems. and you'll have things to do if you get it. FOr starters TAB THE KDP! No ifs ands or buts. DO it first thing. I'd do it before you get it registered even. It is a simple fix though a bit of labor. However if it comes out its bad news for you.

Check for oil leaks. Every cummins I've seen leaks some oil (unless someone went through the work of changin the breather) however make sure the timing case isn't already cracked.

Ask him if he has done anything to the suspension because if he hasn't it will likely need a rebuild(read: chance to upgrade ) also wheel bearings by this time are probably going to be failing soon(if he hasn't done anything to them) they are 250-350 bucks for each one(1 per side).

Look it over real good and see whats wrong with it. Depending on the price it might be a good deal(if you don't mind a little work) or you might be better off looking for something a little better. Without seeing it there isn't much we can say.

FWIW I traded a lifted 97 tahoe for my current 02 and haven't looked back. Though if I ever find another tahoe I can afford.... -
