Default Me And My Questions

Hey I just joined this a couple days ago because I decided i wanted to get a diesel truck. My only problem is I don't know much of anything about them and I am on a pretty tight budget.

My name is Matt, I'm 19 and currently going to school at a community college in TN. I work part time at the Sonic right down the road. (I got the job to flirt with the hot girls that work there =P). Right now I own a 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500 work truck. I plan on selling it and step up to a 2500. Right now I am lookin for a 2001-2004 because they are the ones in my price range of under 14k.

Thanks alot. This is an awesome site and I cannot wait to get my diesel truck! I'll be sure to get a picture of it up asap. -

Bad news first, they don't make a Duramax (Isuzu Engine Company) without a turbo, or pretty much any diesel for that matter. Reason for that is because they were awful gutless without one. Now the good news!! You can get a power upgrade for >$500 and possibly up the MPG to boot w/ out damaging the transmission or the need for other upgrades right away .

Here's a little info on diesel engines and such!! This will help you get to understand the mechanics a little more.

Hey thanks to everyone!
yeah i'm glad they all come with turbo's. so that definately isn't bad news. And what exactly would be a >$500 upgrade? like an intake or like a programmer? I have a friend who has the edge juice with the attitude monitor on is 05 duramax and he likes it. so i was thinkin about going with that. plus i wouldn't have to buy gauges or anything... -

I am not a big fan of the Edge, but that is just me. I would go with the PPE or the Predator.

There is a DIY for the intake mod, you do not need to buy an intake unless you just want too. I have one, but that is because I screwed mine up doing the mod.

I started this topic its own thread here http://www.dieselbombers.com/duramax...questions.html for more exposure to your question. -

Find a nice 2nd gen Dodge 12V and you'll be very happy. Easy to turn up the power for free.

100% correct. The Duramax is NOT an Isuzu Product.. -

Ya but a 12v would probably fit his budget better and cheaper to mod. Unlike programmers and other stuff to get any HP from any computer controlled truck. Just trying to give a young one ideas. -
