Default So Chevy Duramax diesels dont have lift pumps?

Im a Dodge Cummins guy dont know much about Duramax diesels

Friend has one. So Duramaxs dont have lift pumps?

Is the Dramax injector pump designed to pull the fuel from the tank by its self?

.

Short answer, no.

The CP3 high pressure pump has it's own pump within itself. When pushing more fuel, it doesn't keep up very well. A buddy has an '05, way less low fuel pressure codes after a FASS install, better throttle response, better mileage, more power.

It's a fuel rail pressure, or fuel rail performance code. Can also be related to a weak relief in the rail.
I'm familiar with the system, not so much the DMax. 11.5 years of Deere experience. Same CP3 system on a 6068 as a Dmax.

He knows his stuff. Cp3 pulls fuel from the tank, through the filter, to the cp3 pump and to the injectors. Stock you will never usually throw a code, p0087 I believe is low rail pressure. If your losing pressure, you can test to see if it's the relief valve by doing a bottle test. Couple vids on YouTube and a DIY on some of the dmax forums.

Lift pumps are a nice addition especially if you are adding a good amount of power with a tuner. It feeds fuel to the cp3 so it doesn't work as hard, in theory prolonging its life. I never saw an increase in mileage or an increase in power, and I tested it at the track both stock and with a pump (no tuner). Slight throttle response improvement, but barely noticeable IMO.
