it is about $10 cheaper than the stock one at my dealership but i don't care about the price.

i just want the best for my truck. it helps me make my money so i want to keep it that way. my old 94 gm has 330k miles on it and i haven't had to do much more than reg maintenance on it. because of how i maintain my truck. and i want this on to be just like it.

Does anyone fill the filter up with fuel before screwing it back on? Wondering if this would save time and pumping??

dont forget....if you are planning on putting a pyro in...a good time to do it is when you change the filter, that is if you remove the liner.

Default Duramax Fuel Filter Change

Just wanted to say that the pictures and instructions were great, I changed the filter and had no problems.

Yeah, Danny is the man!
I do it from the top without removing the liner. Can change it in about 20-30 minutes now, it's super easy. I use a filter wrench to turn the last 1/2 turn on the filter to make it's tight.

in the 2008 series, it is best done using the methods described, and removing the inner fender well liner, otherwise, you can remove it from the top under the hood, but, you will need to dismount the primer pump from the engine block to give enough space to remove the filter and leave it dismounted until you've installed the replacement filter. Some engineer decided it would be a good idea to make it impossible to get the filter out once it's been unscrewed, and in the owners manual it says to remove the inner fender well liner clips, but only the ones on the rear of the fender.

Well im gonna give it a shot on my 2008 duramax doolie soon as I got 32% life left on it. I had an 05 doolie duramax and tryed it and ill be damned I broke the line going to the rear injector as fuel was pouring out. Luckly my dealer coverd that under warintee. so im kinda gunshy to try it on my 2008 but at 40.00 for a filter compared to 110.00 to have the dealer do it?? Better money in my pocket. Any suggestions. Ya im mechanicaly enclined but once bitten twice shy. I stilll got night mares of the broken injector line on my 05. Very good post on the filter change and great photos. I am just curious my 2008 is this is the 3rd or 4th gen of the duramax?? Was it the same way on all generations to change the fuel filter??

urs is a lmm so i guess it can be called a 4th gen. alot of people can change it from the top i do sometimes. but first time get some pin pullers for the clips holding the plastic fender liner on its tricky to get the filter on there you have to develop a feel for it.

its all basically the same procedure.

Thanks so much my friend. As I mentioned im so gun shy from snapping that injector line on my 2005 that it makes me hesitant to replace the one on my 08. Ill get a clip puller and do it that way. Last thing I need is another snapped injector line. then again im guessing the lines are different on my 08 over my 05? This is a great forum and im a newbie. I know gas but im virgin on diesel motors so forgive my ignorance please. Ill take your suggestion to heed and do it that way. As I said I got 32% left and only 10,000 miles on it. I got a run from NY to KY. to deliver a 64 belvadier then possibly to Mich. To deliver a b.b. cobra then back home to NY . So im unsure if ill do it before this trip or after. Thankyou so much again for getting back to my post.
