You cannot do it yourself without the proper scanning (read: actual diagnostic equipment) tools that support the Duramax drivetrain.

The balance rates (as they are displayed on a scan tool) are data that the PCM displays and uses to create a smooth idle.

Many thanks, what is a fair price to pay to have it checked out?

Typical shops (and I'd only recommend a dealer) will charge a minimum of an hour even though it takes 5 minutes with a warm truck to check the balance rates (and check out the fuel pressure regulator while it's there).

So whatever the shop charges per hour is what you'd be looking to spend at a maximum to just have those two things checked. You may be able to find a shop that will only charge you the time they have into it.

I have noticed an increased amount of smoke 25k miles after installing OEM remanded injectors. Could this be something other than injectors?

Hello and thanks for the replies.
I bought the truck with bad injectors and it was puffing out white smoke for sure. Now it appears to be dark gray or black.
Thanks again
